The effects of stress can lead to irritability, headaches, nausea, back pain, anger, tearfulness and feelings of hopelessness. Although some stress is healthy, a continuous imbalance is unhealthy.

• Think about the situations that might be stressful for workers in a care setting.

• Make a list below and compare with others in your group or at work. Note that people don’t respond to stress in the same way – what one person finds stressful, another might not.

• What do you do to relieve stress?

• Make a list below under the relevant heading according to whether they are good for your health or not, For example, smoking has a negative effect on your health, whereas exercise has a positive effect and is good for relieving stress as well.
