FLORIDA

Persons aged 50 and over account for 15% of AIDS cases and 11% of the HIV (not AIDS) cases through December 2004.

Of the 13,968 AIDS cases reported among persons aged 50 and older in Florida through 2004: whites represent 32%, blacks represent 52% and Hispanic represent 16%.

Of the 13,968 AIDS cases reported among persons aged 50 and older reported through 2004: males represent 80% and females represent 20%.

Of all AIDS cases in Florida among persons aged 50 and older reported in 2004, 65% came from three counties. In Miami-Dade County, persons aged 50 and older made up 34% of all AIDS cases, in Broward County, the figure is 20% and 11% in Palm Beach County.

Blood transfusion, once a common mode of transmission in this age group, declined 100 percent among men and women among the new cases of AIDS from 1995 to 2004 as reported risk.

In 2004, 909 HIV cases (regardless of AIDS status) were reported among persons aged 50 and older.

Of the 3,751 HIV (not AIDS) cases reported among persons aged 50+ through 2004, 57% are among blacks, 25% are among whites and 16% are among Hispanics.

The gap in the number of reported AIDS cases among males and female aged 50 and over is beginning to decrease. In 1995, the male to female ratio was 4.3:1 compared to 3.3:1 in 2004.

MIAMI-DADE

Persons aged 50 and over account for 16 of AIDS cases and 13 of the HIV (not AIDS) cases through December 2004.

Of the 4,489 cases reported among persons aged 50 and older in Miami-Dade County through 2004: whites represent 14%, blacks represent 50% and Hispanic represent 35%.

Of the 4,489 AIDS cases reported among persons aged 50 and older reported through 2004: males represent 80% and females represent 20%.

Of all AIDS cases in Miami-Dade County among persons aged 50 and older reported in 2004, 53% came from three zones. In Liberty City, persons aged 50 and older made up 25% of all AIDS cases, in Little Haiti & Brownville, the figure is 13% and 15% in Little Havana & Overtown.
