Duties and Responsibilities:Serve as the coordinator for the Michigan component of the CDC U.S. Outpatient Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet). This will include weekly contact with sentinel sites, recruitment of new sites, and communication with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as needed.Maintain regular contact with local health departments, MDHHS staff, state media promotions offices, and immunization partners regarding influenza and influenza vaccine issues.Work with the Division of Communicable Diseases and the Bureau of Laboratories as needed regarding influenza and other vaccine-preventable disease issues.Disseminate the surveillance findings and its implications, project evaluation, research, and media reports through weekly communications with partners, peer-reviewed publication, and professional conferences and/or seminars as appropriate.Present up-to-date flu vaccination coverage data and research at stakeholder meetings across the state.Collaborate and act as a liaison with the public health preparedness program on the development of MDHHS preparedness plans for vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks that are managed with vaccination.Work with the division to update content on MDHHS seasonal influenza webpages.Write articles as needed for various internal and external publications regarding influenza, influenza vaccine, and ILINet.Plan and coordinate quarterly Flu Advisory Board meetings.Produce reports for semi-annual grant requirements.Provide back-up to the State’s Vaccine-Preventable Disease Epidemiologists as needed.Conduct other vaccine-preventable disease surveillance and assist with public health emergency response activities for the division as directed by supervisor.Analyze and present influenza immunization data from data sets such as the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) and national survey data.Maintain a positive, strong, credible, professional, and interpersonal relationship with all parties relevant to MPHI projects and represent the best interest of MPHI at all times.Qualifications / Requirements:Education: Possession of a Master’s degree in public health, health communication, epidemiology or related field or equivalent, or completion of a Master’s degree by June 2019. Experience: Preferred at least one year of health education-related experience. Experience using data for program development and implementation. Experience with Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) is recommended.Important Skills and Characteristics: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Self-motivated with the ability to complete work in a timely manner with minimal supervision. Ability to address multiple tasks simultaneously.Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Standard office environment.
