WELLNESS TIPS FOR HEALTHY PETS

WELLNESS TIPS FOR HEALTHY PETS

Health Tip #1: Health and wellness are tightly linked to diet.

*Life long weight control enhances the overall survival times of dogs and cats, and the prevalence of some diseases has been shown to be lower in dogs and cats that are not overweight.

*Ask us about weight control diets for your dog or cat.

*Ask us about testing for diseases that have been linked to obesity, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism.

*Make sure you feed your dog or cat a quality food designed for their season of life and activity level.

Health Tip #2: Spaying or neutering is recommended.

*Spaying and neutering prevents diseases such as mammary cancer, testicular cancer, and infections of the uterus.

*Many genetic conditions could be eliminated if carriers were spayed or neutered and not bred.

*We recommend spaying and neutering by six months of age.

Health Tip #3: Setting up a health and wellness program for your senior pet (nine years or older) provides a better chance of enhancing the early detection of diagnosis of cancer, thereby increasing cure rates.

*Ask us about doing blood work, X-rays, an EKG and urinalysis on your senior pet to help us in catching age related disease early on.

Health Tip #4: Limiting or eliminating environmental carcinogens, such as pesticides, tobacco smoke, and asbestos, may decrease the risk of cancer in dogs and cats.

*Eliminating environmental toxins is healthy for you and your pet!
