KingDate: June 2018JOB SUMMARYThe Workers Compensation (WC) Specialist works under the general supervision of the Director of Risk Management and is responsible for administering claims under the UW Health WC Program. The position maintains close communication with the Employee Health (EHS), Human Resources (HR), Risk Management (RM), Safety and Legal departments to assist with the assessment of injured employees and to facilitate their safe return to work. This position is privy to confidential information such as confidential medical and personnel information in addition to working with information regarding actual or potential individual and group safety and work-related health problems. This information must be kept strictly confidential.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESPromptly review accident reports for completeness and accuracy, and follow up with supervisors, employees, and witnesses, as neededInteract with injured employees to ensure awareness and understanding of the workers’ compensation process, requirements, and entitlements. Advise them of their rights and responsibilities under Wisconsin (WI) and other applicable state WC Laws. Maintain on-going communication regarding their status and progress towards healing. Conduct initial claim investigation, including obtaining supervisor’s assessment and treatment plan from treating practitionerServe as a liaison between medical providers, employees, and WC Insurance Adjusters. Inform departments of an injured employee’s work restrictions and coordinate appropriate pare and reconcile payroll records to ensure timely and accurate benefit paymentsMaintain contact, in collaboration with EHS, with treating physicians, rehabilitation case managers and other appropriate health care providers to keep apprised of the status of injured employees. Advise health care providers as to the availability of restricted duty and Alternate Assignment for injured employeesCommunicate with defense attorneys regarding litigated cases; coordinate efforts to resolve cases including attendance at mediations and hearings; make recommendations regarding proposed strategies for claim resolution.Coordinate claim resolution strategies. Work with the Director of Risk Management and WC Insurance Adjusters to determine appropriate claim resolution and resolution authority as needed. Maintains a confidential WC claims database designed to track claims information and contributing factors. Provide injury information to department managers upon request, as allowed by lawProduce reports on injury costs and frequency as requested Work with insurance carrier and broker to provide benchmarking on worker’s compensation costsEnsure compliance with OSHA accident reporting requirements and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) surveys. ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.JOB REQUIREMENTSEducationMinimumAssociate’s degree in business, human resources or related field. 2 years of relevant experience in workers’ compensation administration or case management may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree in addition to the experience below.PreferredBachelor’s degree in business, human resources or related fieldWork ExperienceMinimum Three (3) years of experience in WC related employment PreferredExperience working in a healthcare environment preferred. Familiarity with WC insurance/claims handling preferred.
