Healthy Eating Poster Project - Ms. Dang's Science Spot

Healthy Eating & Physical Activity Placemat Assignment

This is a project to help you learn and interpret Healthy Eating. Your goal is to design and create a placemat that will inform individuals and promote healthy eating and physical activity, based on the United States’ Food guide.

Each group will choose a specific target group (children (any appropriate theme i.e. superheroes, princesses, cartoons, etc.), teens, senior citizens, athletes, or a specific culture.) and design the placemat with them in mind. For example, if your placemat is aimed at elementary aged school children, then you should make a placemat that is easy to read, has lots of appropriate pictures (that they can relate to), be brightly colored, and catch their attention.

You will have part of a class to brainstorm and create a rough draft, and the remainder of class to complete your final copy. Please get all the information you will need off the internet this week. You will not have computers next week. The placemat poster paper will be provided for you, but you will need to bring all other materials i.e. construction paper if you wish to make it 3D. There are scissors, glue, ruler, markers, crayons for you to use in class. But if you wish to bring your own please have them brought to class for the remainder of the project time.

*You may use the computers to help create your placemat, but be sure to use your own work and not copy and paste everything (i.e. make your own games, riddles, etc.). Do not copy and paste pictures. Try your best at being creative and use lots of color.
