Spring 2006

February is National Heart Month!

This would be a good time to start or continue doing Community CPR courses, Jump rope for Heart, Hoops for Heart, or Heart Walk.

If you would like more information on any of these programs, log onto the AHA web site.

Just a few reminders:

If you are teaching a Friends and Family class there is no charge for the cards. However, AHA and ENMU-R TC are keeping track of all those courses taught. Please mail those rosters as soon as the class is taught. Rosters that are more than 10 days will have a late fee of 10.00. This will not apply to the Training Sites.

We are still receiving copies of rosters; please remember to send in the originals. Starting NOW, please send a summary of the rosters, for the TC is running out of room to store such items. If you needing assistance on how to do this, let the TC know and someone can help.

To clarify any misconceptions:

ALL CARDS HAVE A FEE (with the exception of Friends and Family). If you have any questions, please call.

Checks need to be made out to and mailed to ENMU-R EMS TC; this will ensure the process of issuing cards in a timely manner. If you would like to pay with a Credit Card, ENMU-R now accepts all major Credit Cards. There is a space for this information on the roster.

Rosters need to be PRINTED!

If rosters are difficult to read, it will be sent back to the instructor. This in turn this will delay the students receiving their provider cards. Rosters that are more than 10 days will have a late fee of 10.00.

If the TC staff is unable to read your (the instructor) name, you will NOT get credit for that class. And if you do not have enough classes at the end of your certification, then you will not be renewed. Please make sure that you Print your name.

Passing score is 84%. If you did remediation with the student the highest score that the student can receive is 84%. This includes ACLS, BLS (all levels) and PALS.

Instructor Student ratio is 6:1 Max 8:1.

Remember: all rosters must have evaluations attached, unless you are doing a summary, which also must be attached.

Renewals

Starting in 2006, if your instructor card needs to be renewed then, the course report along with the memo, will be sent out. These reports must be sent back. The TC is required to keep copies of all cards, course reports, and changes in any information. Phone calls will not be accepted, unless you did not receive a report and memo.

Equipment and Tool Kits:

When renting equipment from ENMU-R, it is your responsibility to make sure the equipment is cleaned and ready for the next instructor. This needs to be done as a common courtesy for your fellow instructors. Effective immediately, any instructor returning dirty equipment will be charged a cleaning fee.

The tool kits need to come back within 3 days after the last day of the course. please make sure they are complete.

Instructors will be charged for all tool kits not returned.

ANNOUNCMENTS:

Starting January 1, 2006, we will no longer accept rosters with just one student on it.

Any instructor who teaches for another Training Center is welcome to do this, the one thing that needs to be done is a Teaching Activity Report must be filled out and sent to the appropriate TC.

I encourage all instructors

to teach, whether it be BLS, ACLS, or PALS.

Remember that if you need to teach classes to keep up you instructorship, call, for we can always find a class somewhere in the State of New Mexico.

New

As many of you know already AHA is changing or updating information. As soon as the National Facility returns from Dallas, notices will be sent out to all instructors as to the times and dates of the roll outs for all instructors.

Did you know that BLS, ACLS and PALS are now online? What this means is that a student may take the course on line and the skills “test off” with an instructor. When turning in those types of rosters, copies of the certificate MUST accompany the roster.
