You were a lifesaver.”“Thank for being my forever-ever caring friend, for my bearing my burdens, and for sharing laughs …a very happy, hug-filled, heartfelt thanks.” “I’m using you as an example to my kids of someone unselfish, giving and ready with a can-do spirit. I hope they turn out just like you.”Part 2: Here is an example of a gratitude letter:Hi there Fiona,I know that I don’t say this nearly as often as I should, but I really wanted to thank you for being such a good friend. If I ever need you, you’re there for me and are happy to listen when I need to talk. We’ve both shared the highs and lows of life together, and I never could have got through it all without you!You are one of the most important people in my life. When I count my blessings, I always think of you. I don’t think that I could have got through the last few years without you…remember the day last year that I turned up at your place in a sobbing mess, and together we hugged and cried at the unfairness of life? Through all the stressors of life, you have always helped me get through. I appreciate this more than you know!Thank you again – you’re a fabulous person and a wonderful friend. I feel lucky to have you in my life.Love,JayneFrom 3: Write a gratitude letter. Instructions:1) Think of someone who did something for you for which are extremely grateful. It could be a classmate, a spouse, a co-worker or a friend. It could also be a boss or a teacher. 2) Consider the appropriate tone. If your letter will be to someone like a friend or a spouse, then it will have a more casual tone. If it is to a boss or someone with whom you have a professional relationship, then it will have a slightly more formal tone.3) Start with a greeting. You might say “Hi there (name)” for a close friend. “Dear name” is also a great way to start a letter (for pretty much anyone).4) In the body of the letter, outline why you are grateful for this person. Give at least two specific details—such as things that the person did that were especially helpful, why you appreciate the person, or how they have impacted your life. Including these details really shows the person that you noticed their efforts.5) Close the letter appropriately. Examples of appropriate closings are: Love (if you are very close friends or a spouse), With gratitude, Thanks again, Gratefully, Warmly6) Bring your drafted letter to class by Thursday, October 10. 7) (Optional) Give or send your letter! You could read the letter to the recipient in person, or you could give the letter with a surprise gift. Here are a few ideas of ways you could present your letter:Put the letter and the cookie on the recipient’s desk with a toothpick flag that says, “You’re the sweetest.”Spell out the word “Thanks” in wrapped candies somewhere where they’ll be discovered. Present the letter when the candies are discovered.Attach a little paper “Thanks” tag to the dog’s collar and have him deliver the message for you.Put a small vase of flowers and the gratitude letter in the fridge to surprise your spouse.Write “THANK YOU” on the driveway with bright chalk.Developed by Shelley MacDonald-LinAdapted from and ; ; ................
