Kala Goes Seismic With Subductive Solid Body U-BASS Series

Petaluma CA

Kala Brand Music Co. takes inspiration right off of the Richter scale with the addition of the Subductive Series of Solid Body U-Basses. The Subductive Series is the latest addition to Kala's revolutionary line of 21 inch scale bass instruments. Subductive (S-U-B for short) is inspired by the term used to describe how the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point in the Pacific Ocean, was created. Concomitantly, the U-Basses are equipped with Kala's proprietary polyurethane strings which produce incredible bottom end that can be described only as seismic.

The Kala S-U-B Series offers a less expensive alternative to Kala's California series of USA manufactured solid body basses. Four string fretted versions are available in Sunburst, Red, and Black finishes. All Kala U-Basses are very portable and meet all airline carry on

requirements. Other features include a Shadow pickup system with volume control and 2 band EQ, Custom Hipshot Tuners, and Graph Tech Black Tusq self-lubricating nut. A Custom Deluxe Logo Gig bag is included in the price of each instrument.

"The Kala Solid Body U-Bass is a true innovation in the world of bass", according to Hutch Hutchinson, longtime bassist for Bonnie Raitt."They are really fun to play, sound great live or in the studio, and are extremely portable."

Kala introduced the original U-Bass design in 2009. Since then it has found its way into studios and live performances in the hands of many notable artists that include Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon), Hector Maldonado (Train), Jim Mayer (Jimmy Buffett), and Reggie McBride (Keb Mo).It has also been featured in the popularTV series, "Glee" and the film Just Go With It.

Heidi Swedberg And Kala Team Up For Haiti

Actress and musician Heidi Swedberg, most often recognized for her role as the envelope licking "Susan" from the Seinfeld series, is taking her latest role of music ambassador very seriously. Heidi has teamed with Kala Brand Music Co. to take ukuleles to the Global Family Orphanage in Les Cayes, Haiti to teach the children and teachers there how to play.

Haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere before the devastating earthquake reduced its scanty infrastructure to rubble. In the midst of crushing poverty and a recent cholera epidemic, Heidi's goal is to bring some joyful moments into the lives of the children at the orphanage in the form of music. Heidi is taking several boxes with her of Kala's "Makala" series of color ukuleles that are popular with children because of their bright colors and dolphin shaped bridges.

Before leaving Heidi explained, "Haiti is a country with a rich folk tradition and the ukulele fits right in. I am looking forward to a musical exchange: learning their songs, and giving them access to playing them. The accessibility of the ukulele makes it possible because it is easy to teach and to learn. Through the generosity of donations made by Kala and money raised through bake sales held by the St Brendan's Ukulele Club, we will be able to provide these happy instruments to these kids that have endured so much."

Upon returning home Heidi will leave the instruments with the children at the orphanage yet she suspects that she will come away with more than she leaves behind. "I will leave them with instruments and chords, they will give me their songs and perhaps something even more. I think I may just learn the true value of music, and the sustenance it provides to the soul."
