Hello Students!

My name is Mrs. Foster, and I would like to tell you some things about myself, and learn some things about you!

My family has been growing over the past few years. My only sister has two kids, Ethan, who’s 5, and Harper, who’s 3. This last summer, I celebrated my 3rd wedding anniversary with my husband in Maui!

He and I are both the youngest children of our siblings. His two sisters also have two kids each, Gabriel (5), Sarah (3), Elijah (2), and Makayla (1). So even though we don’t have any kids of our own yet, we are aunt and uncle to 6 nieces and nephews!

They live all over the west coast, from Brentwood and Concord to Chico, Auburn, CA, and Portland, OR. What’s your family like?

When I was growing up, my family didn’t have a lot. While we got by with the basic necessities, we didn’t have much room for extras. This experience shaped some of my core values. For example, I didn’t like asking my parents for much because I knew they didn’t have much to give. Therefore, I have always worked hard for the things that I have. In addition, I saw my parents working hard for the things we did have, and they always did so honestly. For this reason, integrity is something that is of utmost importance to me. I understand that getting is not the most important thing, but rather, character is. What are some of your core values?

When I was your age, I loved playing soccer. I played for ten years, in every position except goalie. During my last years playing soccer, I think I found my best position at left midfield. I also loved playing the drums. My friends and I pretended to have a band, but we were really bad.

These days, when I’m not at school, I love to read and cook, and play with my dog, Gunner. One of my favorite things to do is have friends over for dinner and games (Right now, my favorite is One Night: Ultimate Werewolf. I know it sounds really nerdy but it’s super fun). What is something that you enjoy doing outside of school?

I knew I wanted to be an English teacher for a long time, maybe even before I was in high school myself. I went to Chico State and I majored in English Education and minored in Spanish. I lived there for five years before I moved to Brentwood and began teaching here at Heritage. In less than five years from now, you’ll be out of high school! It’ll be over before you know it. What are your ambitions and dreams for your future?

There’s one last thing that is important to me that you know: one of the things I’ve grown to appreciate about teaching is that I get a fresh start every year. Whatever happened last year is over, and I have another chance to do things, and do them better. The same is true for you as students. Freshmen, you have a completely blank slate this year. I have no idea what kind of person or student you were last year. Sophomores, most of you I also don’t know, and even for those of you who spent a whole year in my class last year, this is a brand new start. You are not confined to who you were last year. Enjoy this fresh start, and I earnestly hope we enjoy this year together.
