The working languages are English and French. Chinese interpretation will be provided as a courtesy of the Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in Chengdu.

The meeting venue at the Jinjiang Hotel is in Jinjiang Hall located on the second floor of the hotel, which can accommodate 500 persons.

REGISTRATION

All participants, delegates, observers and those wishing to attend the open-ended working group are strongly advised to register no later than 30 May 2017. This is to allow the organizers sufficient time to process all the relevant information and to ensure that all the logistical arrangements are in place before the opening of the session. Please register online on the website of the open-ended working group: .

If you are unable to register online, please use the registration form in Annex A and return it by email to: ichmeetings@.

All registered participants, delegates and observers are requested to inform the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Section of any subsequent changes to their travel arrangements. This will ensure that logistical arrangements are attended to in a smooth manner.

ACCOMMODATION

Participants, apart from those to whom financial assistance has been confirmed, are responsible for booking their own accommodation and for covering all costs incurred during their stay in China. It is strongly recommended that participants book their accommodation by 5 June 2017. A list of designated hotels is available at the end of this document. These designated hotels are conveniently located in close proximity to the meeting venue, allowing participants to reach the meeting venue easily either on foot or by a short taxi ride.

Participants who are eligible for financial assistance will be accommodated at the Jinjiang Hotel, the same location as the meeting venue.

PASSPORTS, VISAS AND OTHER TRAVEL INFORMATION

5.1 Passports/Visas

All participants are required to present a valid passport at the port of entry to legally enter the People’s Republic of China.

Participants are kindly advised to check the details of the entry requirements into China with particular reference to nationality and the type of passport they hold with the nearest Chinese Embassy and Consulate.

If you are travelling to China via other countries, please familiarize yourself with the transit requirements of those countries before commencing your journey.

5.2 Medical insurance and service

First-aid services will be provided at the meeting venue. Directions to the first-aid room may be obtained from the reception. Participants are, however, expected to assume responsibility for the medical costs of any other treatments that they might receive while in China. It is strongly recommended that participants purchase medical insurance in their home countries to cover medical costs while in China or in transit.

5.3 Travelling to and from Chengdu, China

Shuangliu International Airport is the main international arrival and departure airport to Chengdu and is situated 16 km southwest of Chengdu city. Welcome desks will be set up at Shuangliu International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 from 8 June to 15 June 2017 to assist participants arriving and departing.

Transport will be arranged for participants between the airport and the designated hotels, as indicated in the Annex, upon their arrival and departure. To facilitate airport transportation arrangements, all participants are kindly requested to submit their flight details for both their arrival and departure by emailing: cdifichconference@. Details of any subsequent changes should also be provided, using the same email address.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

Participants are responsible for their own transportation between the designated hotels and the meeting venue (Jinjiang Hotel).

Please note that participants not staying at the officially designated hotels will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the airport, between their respective hotels and the meeting venue, as well as to venues for planned activities as per the meeting programme.

MEETING

7.1 Interpretation

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in the working languages of the Committee, namely English and French. Simultaneous interpretation in the language of the host country, Chinese, will also be provided.

7.2 Meeting registration and information desk

A registration and information desk will be set up at the Jinjiang Hotel between 8 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. from 11 to 13 June 2017.

7.3 Badges

Badges will be presented to participants at the registration and information desk. Participants must wear the badges at all times when entering the meeting venue.

7.4 Internet connection (meeting venue)

A free Wi-Fi connection is available at the meeting venue. The login information will be provided to participants upon arrival.

7.5 Meals

During the meeting, lunch will be provided at a cost in the restaurants located on the ground floor of the meeting venue. Participants need to inform the staff at the registration desk in order to buy the meal tickets. A continued free coffee/tea service will be available at the meeting venue. During the session break, free snacks and beverages will be available at the corner next to the meeting hall.

OTHER EVENTS IN CHENGDU

In conjunction with the working group, China will hold the sixth International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Chengdu (the Festival). The Festival, initiated in 2007, is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province. For the second to the fifth editions of the Festival, UNESCO has granted its patronage as a co-host. Over the past ten years, the Festival has attracted intangible cultural heritage professionals and practitioners from over 100 countries and regions to visit its forums, presentations, exhibitions and fairs.

Registered participants to the working group are invited to the welcome reception on 9 June, the opening ceremony of the Festival and an international forum organized by the Organizing Committee of the sixth Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival under the title ‘Ideas and Principles of the Convention and Safeguarding Practices’ on 10 June.

9.2 Government structure

Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province. It has direct jurisdiction over eleven districts, four county-level cities and five counties.

9.3 Weather

The weather in early June is normally warm and humid in Chengdu. The average lowest and highest temperatures of Chengdu in June are 21°C / 70°F and 28°C / 82°F, respectively.

9.4 Chengdu and its people

With a diversified natural environment and abundant resources, Chengdu is known as “the Land of Abundance”. It is neighbour to some World Heritage sites such as Jiuzhai Valley and E-mei Mountain and is also home to giant pandas and ancient Ba-Shu culture. It is also known for heritage sites such as Wuhou Temple and Jinsha Site Museum. Chengdu maintains its balance between rapid development and casual living, and people here are known for their relaxed lifestyle.

9.5 Currency

The official currency in China is RMB (US Dollar / RMB = 6.884 (latest)). Retailers in Chengdu will generally not accept foreign currencies; visitors therefore need to change foreign currencies into RMB in advance. Shuangliu Airport, JinJiang Hotel and most banks have a Bureau de Change and major foreign currencies can be changed into Chinese currency. Banking hours are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) are available throughout the city. Major credit cards are accepted at the main hotels, restaurants and retailers. Cash is necessary in small shops.

9.6 Electricity supply

The electricity voltage in China is 220V. China Standard 2 Pin/3 Pin plugs and change-over plugs are used.

9.7 Time zone

Chengdu uses Beijing Standard Time, which is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+8).
