Changing the Spoken Language of the Scanner

Changing the Spoken Language of the Scanner

NCR SuperASIC and PXA scanners have the capability to speak certain error conditions and some information requested of it. The default language is English, but the scanner is also able to speak those messages in Spanish. Other languages will be made available in the future.

The language files are listed according to the scanner type. For example:

Language Files for PXA and SA Scanners

|Part Number |Release Date |Scanner |Download |

|SPA3003 - Spanish |26 Mar 2008 |PXA |SPA3003(self-extracting Zip) |

|SPA0002 - Spanish |10 Sep 2007 |SA |SPA0002(self-extracting Zip) |

|SPA0001 - Spanish |13 Dec 2005 |SA |SPA0001(self-extracting Zip) |

To install a new language in the scanner, you need to use the same Flash Tool (NCRRSFlash, also on website) used for reflashing scanner firmware.

The same language file will work with ALL PXA (7878/7874/7884) scanners. This file can be identified by its name “SPA30xx.bin”, where xx is the current version.

The same rule will apply to the language files for the SA (SuperASIC) scanners. The SA files can be identified by the name “SPA00xx.bin”, where xx is the current version.

Make sure the TAB of the scanner type you plan on changing is in FRONT.

For example, here is what the tool looks like when reflashing the language file of any SA (7875, 7876, 7883, 7872, and 7892) scanner:

Here is the screenshot for a PXA 7878:

Please remember that while each PXA scanner has its own tab, they all use the same language file.

Choose the appropriate language file, then click SAVE.

RUN the Flash program now, as you would any firmware flash. Remember to scan the Flash Mode barcode, if appropriate, for your version.

Once the flash process is complete, you must activate the new language. This requires a programming sequence to be scanned into the scanner, as follows:

PROGRAM MODE

HEX 5

HEX 6

HEX 1

SAVE&RESET

When the unit completes rebooting, it should speak in the new language.
