MOVE WITH THE POWER IV128016037909500CURRENT TRENDS IN PATHFINDER MINISTRYRESOURCEResourcing the Traditional Card Curriculum from the ‘Way to Go’Presented by John WellsAssociate Youth DirectorGreater Sydney ConferenceStuarts PointSeptember 29 – 30 2017IntroductionActive learning has been done by JMV leaders and Pathfinder leaders using the card system. It is a recognised way of learning outside of the ‘Way to Go’ curriculum. Creative leaders have always recognised that ‘doing’ is a great way to learn. This was made popular as a teaching method by the same man who invented the Library Dewy System.Active learning is the group, either, learning from an experience/simulation activity or using knowledge they have been taught in an active experience where they use the knowledge to achieve the activity.CurriculumsThe Pathfinders in Australia and New Zealand currently have the choice of three curriculumsTraditional Card SystemSpeciality‘Way to Go’No curriculum method is perfect. They all have weaknesses and the attitude of the club director, teachers and staff really make a big difference in the way they operate. Each have resources. The best resources available to Pathfinder leaders is the over 400 different activities that have been developed for the ‘Way to Go’ program. The Sydney Pathfinder Advisory formed a subcommittee to compare the Traditional system with the ‘Way to Go’. These are the two main curriculums used in our conference. One of the outcomes of the subcommittee is a listing of resources that that is available for usage by staff using the card systemThis document shares with you the resources that do line up with card requirements. It opens up a whole new resource that will help you to keep Pathfinder engaging for the participants. How to use this resource for the Card System.Identify the resource to help you achieve the requirement.Go to the web site – – then open the home pageClick on Pathfinders/curriculum/scroll down to ‘Way to Go’ program and click on CLICKUser name is – pfstaffPassword is - pfrxGo to the top and click on TitleScroll down until you have the title you wantOpen it upExplore the layoutIncludes a list of equipmentOutline of the activitySuggested debriefing questionsDecide how you are going to use this resourceAs it isAs it is without the time restraint – often you can do it a lot quicker. Especially if you have a small group.Adapt the idea Remember that you can use this resource toHave the group learn something from the activity through debriefing questions such as:- How do you feel? What does it mean to you? What would will you do about it?When will you do it?Teach the group a skill and then do an activity that involves what they have learned or is a reinforcement of what the group has discussed. (Frontloading the activity) Discuss how they used what they learned. Example is when teaching knots. Use the activity as a reinforcement for things the group has discussed or information that you have taught them (Something to do)Happy learningFRIENDCard OutlineWay to Go “GENERAL1Be 10 years of age2Active member of a Pathfinder Club3Memorise & explain the Pledge & LawPledged on the inside4Have a current Book Club CertificateBIBLE SEARCH1Memorise the NT.
