YEARBOOK SYLLABUS

YEARBOOK SYLLABUS

Instructor: Mrs. Tiger

Philosophy:

Our job is to cooperatively produce an annual publication that accurately and fairly portrays our high school for the school year 2007-08.

This class is one of only two classes in the high school that are production classes. We provide a service for the school, as well as the community. Students are involved in the process from the conception to the distribution phase of the yearbook. Therefore, a higher level of responsibility and accountability is required.

Rules:

Students will respect themselves, the code of ethics for journalism, and others.

Computers are to be used for class assignments only.

Students are to be on time. School policy: tardy = discipline notice

First Half:

Students will develop a theme, create a design layout, and designate section assignments, through a theme packet project

Students will develop the necessary skills to create an appealing and accurate layout (including photos, copy, and design).

Students will apply for desired positions on staff. Decisions will be based on application essays and resume.

Second Half:

Students will: produce a complete yearbook, be required to participate in reasonable fundraising assignments, and be required to keep a portfolio of their works.

Students will be expected to participate in scheduled journalism competitions. In addition, many of the assignments will require students to attend events after school hours.

Supplies Needed:

Pen, paper, and pocket folder. Additional portfolio supplies will be required at a later date.

.Grading:

Grades will be given for class assignments, as well as production of the newspaper. Missed deadlines will result in failing grades. Students who frequently find it difficult to complete work by deadlines may be asked to withdraw from the class.
