Career Academies - Technical College System of Georgia

This document describes Career Academy (CA) terms and procedures that will enable the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) to track statistical information for consistent reporting for Dual Enrolled High School students participating in the Academy program.A CA is designated as a location where Academy curriculum is offered to students in compliance with the CA grant. High school students who are also coded as Dual enrolled students will be counted in CA enrollment if they take courses offered at a designated CA campus associated with a Technical College.A CA campus is a physical location that must be defined in Banner. In most cases the CA campus is a campus within an existing campus for the purposes of defining CA students. For example, if a college hosts an Academy at its main campus facility, the college would create another Banner campus for the Academy. Academy courses would be scheduled using the CA campus. Both the CA campus and the college main campus are the same location but the campus course is used to distinguish CA students.Reports are generated by college or by CA campus. For multi-area academies, the reports can be organized by High School. The Data Center plans to have new KMS reports for CA enrollment by late spring/early summer.Below are the steps for creating a CA in order for student enrollment to be accurately collected and reported. These are only the steps for the creation of the Banner tracking. It is assumed that the college has the proper approval/authorization to manage an Academy.Step 1: Create a Banner campus code for the CA – STVCAMPEnter a new Banner code and campus descriptionSend a notification to the Data Center that the CA campus has been created and include the Banner code and description along with the term that Academy courses will first be taught (start term). Email address is datacenter@tcsg.eduCareer Academy:Step 2: Notify college personnel who create the course schedule of the new Banner campus code.Use SSASECT Banner form to assign term courses with the CA campus code for each Academy course at each Academy campus.Step 3: Enroll Students in the CA Course(s)Academy students can be admitted into any current college campus, but in order for students to be counted as CA students, they must be coded as Student Type “H” for High School, “Dual” for Dual enrolled student, along with the appropriate Education Level and High School for the appropriate terms.
