Career Center is a public high school enrolling approximately 1,970 students in grades 9 through 12. Career Center is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the NC Department of Public Instruction. Career Center offers a comprehensive curriculum at regular, honors, Advanced Placement and Career Technical Education levels. Average AP class size is 25 to 32 students. Average CTE class size is 20.

Demographics for the 2010-2011 school-year are: 67% of students are White, 17% are African American,

8% are Multi-Racial, 5% are Asian, and 3% are American Indian/Alaskan Native.

Curriculum

The academic program operates on an eight period day, consisting of traditional year-long and block classes.

The Winston-Salem Forsyth County School (WSFCS) system’s Explanation of Transcript form provides the following information: Course Levels, Course Flags, Grading and Ranking, Unweighted and Weighted GPA Calculations, Advanced Placement and Honors Curriculum, Dual Enrollment, and NC Academic Scholar Honors Requirements.

Statistics for AP Courses

Our Advanced Placement students consistently perform above both state and national averages. Below is a comparison of proficiency percentages based on the 2010 AP exam scores.  Proficiency is defined as scoring a 3 or above on an Advanced Placement exam.

Career Center's Career Technical students also consistently perform better than other students in the state on the VoCATS exams.  Below is a comparison over time of the percentage of students scoring proficient (Level III or IV) on their exams.

Community /District

WSFCS serves about 52,000 students with the goal of providing a quality education for each child. The school system has 43 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, and 13 high schools. Eleven special schools bring the system-wide total to 86.
