Syllabus for Ballet 2, IA 2016-2017Mrs. Koeppeborn@ 941-721-6800 ext. 1061Dance DepartmentWelcome to Mrs. Elyse Koepp’s class for 2016-2017, together we will have an exciting and successful year. I began my dance career at a very young age and I have not stopped yet. I grew up dancing under the direction of Ms. Carty, and continued my exploration of dance through both high school and collegiate dance programs. I graduated from Florida International University and have worked for National Dance Alliance for 12 years. Dance has given me the opportunity to travel to many places such as Japan, Hawaii, New York City, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and many more. I hope my passion for dance and teaching will help you realize your potential and allow you to find your passion for dance!Class Description:The purpose of this course is to extend the acquisition of knowledge and the development of technique in ballet and to provide an opportunity for performance. The content will include, but not be limited to, the following: further development of knowledge and application of barre and center warm-ups and techniques, turns, combinations, and across-the-floor, knowledge of performance, knowledge of ballet terminology and ballet history. Class Procedures:Dress-Out properly. Enter dance room.Neatly place all backpacks and personal items in designated area of dance studio.Form roll call lines and begin warm-up exercises and wait silently for instruction. Folders must contain all required assignments and will be checked regularly.Skills test will take place regularly, so make sure to have folders with you at all times.All students leaving the room with a green pass will sign out before exiting class.Class Rules: Respect Yourself and Respect OthersUse restroom before or after class.Always dress out and be equipped to perform written and physical assignments daily. Bring FULL water bottle with you to school and class. Student Responsibilities and Expectations:I expect all students to practice self-discipline and arrive to class with a positive attitude and an open-mind. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up with the teacher to receive assignments in the case of an absence. All rules found in the Student Code of Conduct will be upheld and supported in this course so make sure to be familiar with these. Ballet Class Uniform:Girls:Hair pulled back securely in a bun. (We will have a “How To Make a Bun” session to help you learn)MSA Black leotard.Pink tights. (Worn all the way to your feet-no holes or runs in them)Pink ballet shoes. Black Boy Shorts (optional) or Black Ballet Skirt (optional) – no other shorts will be allowed. Boys:Black athletic shorts with black compression shorts underneath Black MSA T-Shirt or plain white t-shirt.Black ballet shoes with black socks.*If have long hair, must be held back with a head band or rubber band.No MSA Hoodies are to be worn after warm up!Supplies Needed For Class:Dance Uniform- must replace tights when they become damagedHair ties, bobby pins, make up for performances3 Prong folder with 2 pockets.Loose-leaf paper.Pen or pencil. (Blue or black ink only)STRONGLY RECOMMENDED BUT NOT MANDATORY- “Superior Band” or “Ballet Band” to help with flexibility. Can be found online. Grading:Participation Written Assignments/FolderDressing OutSkills TestsPhysically ParticipatingProjects/PresentationsWork Ethic (attitude and effort)**Showcase PerformancesWritten Assignments/FolderQuizzesSkills TestsFinal TestPlease note: a doctor’s note must be provided to the teacher if an illness or injury will interfere with class participation. If an excessive amount of class time is missed due to an illness or an injury, even with documentation from a doctor, the highest possible grade to earn for the assignments or choreography missed will be “C”. ** Dancers are REQUIRED to attend mandatory showcases as part of their grade and overall learning experience. Dates for these performances will be sent home ASAP.
