Smart Horizons Instructions for Training Enrollment

1. Visit website at kerncounty. 2. On the left side of the screen click on Career Online High School (on left side

of screen under Browse Catalog). 3. You MUST select Prerequisite Course for either Certified Commercial Driving or

Child Care with High School Diploma and click Enroll Now. *Additional training programs available after High School Diploma is obtained*. 4. The Enrolling Course should have Price: $0 5. Click on Continue Enrollment. 6. Follow instructions to complete registration after clicking on New Students Start Here. 7. After you have completed registration you need to contact Kelly Miller at (661) 635-2703 in order to have your account verified/started.

Completing Prerequisite requirements

1. Once your account has been verified, click on Enter my classroom. You have 2 weeks to complete 14 mandatory assessments, which could be completed prior to the 2 weeks allowed.

2. After the 14 assessments are completed you MUST contact Kelly Miller at (661) 635-2703 to schedule an eligibility appointment at America's Job Center SE Bakersfield location (1600 E. Belle Terrace).

3. To be enrolled in the actual High School Diploma program you MUST attend your eligibility appointment and take an assessment with Employer's Training Resource Center. (The assessment is a basic skills test and is not Pass or Fail.)

Commonly Asked Questions

1. What happens after eligibility and assessment have been completed? After being officially enrolled in High School Diploma training you will be contacted by an Academic Coach, who will provide assistance throughout the duration of the training program.

2. How long does it take to receive my High School Diploma? The program is designed for 18 months, however based on the number of credits or units available for transfer from your High School transcripts, the program can be completed at a faster pace. Completing times have varied from 4 months to 18 months.

3. What happens after I receive my High School Diploma? Employers' Training Resource has two paths for recent graduates: Job search assistance or provide additional training options with programs varying from the Medical field to actual Commercial Driver.
