L’Anse Creuse High School - Mr. DeBord's AP Government ...

L’Anse Creuse High School

A.P. United States Government Summer Packet 2018

The Advanced Placement course in United States Government and Politics is designed to give students a critical perspective on politics and government. This course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret United States politics and the analysis of specific case studies. It also requires familiarity with the various institutions, groups, beliefs and ideas that make up the American political reality.

Advanced Placement (AP) classes are courses designed to attract and challenge students who have strong reading, writing, and thinking skills and who work well in an accelerated, demanding classroom environment.

The difference between a regular history course and an AP alternative is that an AP class is a college class taught at the high school. It moves at a faster pace, has higher expectations, and presents a more rigorous and analytical curriculum. In addition, AP classes are designed to develop students’ abilities as critical thinkers and offer them a college-level course with college-level expectations. AP courses are also aimed at preparing students for the AP examination in May. Students who take AP U.S. Government must plan on registering and taking the AP exam in May 2019.

To be successful, you will need to stay focused, work hard, and put in lot of effort. When school begins in September, we will need to jump right into the curriculum if you want to be ready to take the AP exam in May. Therefore, you must complete the following four parts of the summer assignment, each of which will count as part of your grade during the first progress report in the Fall.

Because this is a college-level course, you will need access to a computer, Internet, and a printer to complete these assignments. If you do not have a computer and/or internet access, there are a number of great libraries around the county available for your use.
