4-day Work Week begins on June 20, 2011

CMS is just a few days away from the summer 10-4 schedule. Starting on Monday, June 20, most employees will work 10 hours a day, four days a week, and will be off on Fridays. The summer schedule will continue through Aug. 11.

The 411 on 10-4:

Monday, June 20:

• On Monday, June 20, most 11- and 12-month employees will begin the summer schedule and will work a 10-hour day.

Working Hours:

• All CMS employees working during the summer will be required to work 40 hours (or less if hours are prorated) in four days.

• The standard office hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with most offices and schools closed on Fridays.

• There is limited flexibility during the 10-4 schedule. Employees may arrange to begin work no earlier than 6:30 a.m. and end no later than

6:30 p.m. The changes must be approved by a supervisor before June 20.

• Part-time employees must arrange work times within the four-day work week and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. work schedule.

Breaks and Lunch:

• Hourly employees are entitled to a minimum of 30 minutes for lunch and must be completely relieved of work duties during the lunch break.

• All employees may take a 15-minute break for every four hours worked. Breaks cannot be added up so employees may come in late or leave early.

Annual Leave or Sick Leave:

• Sick leave and annual leave will be earned and used on the basis of a 10-hour work day.

• On the district’s regular schedule, one sick day or annual leave day would equal eight hours of leave. On a 10-4 work week, one sick day or annual leave day will equal 10 hours of leave.

• Employees who use a sick day or annual leave day during the 10-4 schedule will use 10 hours of leave time or 1.25 days of leave time.

The July 4 holiday:

• Monday, July 4, is a holiday and CMS is closed that day. Many employees have this day as a paid holiday. For others, it is a non-paid, non-work day.

• During the holiday week, all employees will be off on Monday, July 4, for the holiday. Employees will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, July 5-8.

Payroll/pay dates:

• Biweekly pay dates are moved to Thursday (instead of Friday) during the 10-4 work schedule period. The July monthly pay date will also move from Friday, July 29, to Thursday, July 28.

• Payroll coordinators should refer to the online payroll schedules for the adjusted due dates during the 10-4 work schedule period.

High School Sports and Band Camps:

• High school summer optional workouts may not be held on Fridays before June 30. That includes practices, scrimmages, weight room sessions or any gathering of student-athletes.

• Beginning Saturday, July 30, schools may resume their normal athletic tryout and practice schedules, including on Fridays.

• Summer band camps and practices are under the same restrictions as athletics.
