I know all of our staff at TAPS has your children at the forefront of our thoughts as we continue the distance learning process.? I appreciate all the parents and guardians of children have done and will continue to do as we work together to provide a positive academic experience for your children coupled with social and emotional support as we engage our kids daily with online learning and socialization.? As we have said from the beginning, keeping our kids engaged academically is very important, but everyone’s emotional health is our top priority.?Yesterday afternoon Governor Walz informed us all that distance learning will continue through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.?? TAPS will continue to provide distance learning for all our students until the end of the school year.? Through the end of the 2019-2020 school year TAPS will continue to provide distance learning, continue to provide daycare for essential employees, and continue to provide meals for our students.?Below are some important points to consider as we conclude the 2019-2020 school year.1.????Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1 the elementary will have learning packets for Kindergarten and third grade only available for pickup. ?The rest of the elementary work will be online.2.????Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1 the high school will have all the supplies left in the school lockers for students to pick up. ? Each building principal and individual teachers will be in contact with students and parents about what the students will need to finish the school year.? Elementary learning packets for kindergarten and third grade may be picked up at TAES and high school supplies may be picked up at TAHS.3.????Friday, May 1 and Monday, May 4 will be used for planning for the extended distance learning period which will begin on May 5, 2020.? These will not be instructional days.? This decision to not have instructional time on May 1 and May 4 was directed by Governor Walz.4.????Day care for essential employees and meal delivery will continue on May 1 and May 4 during the teacher planning time.5.????Tuesday, May 5 distance learning will continue as normal.6.????The last instructional day for seniors will be on Friday, May 15, 2020.? Seniors will bring in their laptops to door number 4 on Friday, May 15, 2020.? As soon as this decision is solidified we will inform seniors and parents and the entire community about the date for graduation of the class of 2020.? Graduation will not be held in the traditional way, but we will make this day very special for our seniors within the social distancing parameters allowed.10.We will also send out information regarding prom when we finalize a possible rescheduled date.? Realistically this will be very hard to schedule considering all the social distancing guidelines currently in place and that will likely continue throughout the summer months.? We will do our best to consider all options, but prom may be unlikely this year.11.The Minnesota State High School League has cancelled all spring sports and activities for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.?I am sorry that I don’t have a lot of good news to share with everyone today.? We have all heard the words unprecedented, historic, and surreal many times to define our world.? All of those words apply but do not take away isolation that our children are feeling or the pain that our seniors are feeling as they finish up their senior year doing distance learning.? ?However we will come out of this stronger, better, and more prepared for what every the future may hold.? Our kids are resilient and they will forever be known as the generation that battled COVID-19 and were required to have distance learning.?Thank you to all the parents, staff, and community for standing behind our students and supporting them!?Once a Panther, always a Panther! ................
