Job Description

Job Title: School Attendance Secretary

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

SUMMARY

Performs secretarial duties in the middle and high school by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Answer telephone and take messages.

2. Issue absence and tardy slips to students and recording into student database.

3. Composes, or transcribes from rough draft, correspondence, bulletins, memorandums, and other material.

4. Creates daily attendance report for teachers and Administrators.

5. Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student absences.

6. Enter data in Student electronic database.

7. Provide attendance information to guidance counselor, principal and central office.

8. Greets visitors to school, determines nature of business, and directs visitors to destination.

9. Talks with student encountering problem and resolves problem or directs student to other worker.

10. Answers telephone to provide information, take message, or transfer calls.

11. Assist in orders and dispensing school supplies.

12. Perform other tasks assigned by Principal.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to meet the public effectively.

Thorough knowledge of business English and spelling

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine computer reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of arithmetic.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
