2020 Submission Deadline: Monday, June 8, 2020 at 5:00 pmTrack 1: Collaborative Research Incentive Grant GoalsThe Office of Research is committed to supporting faculty and student research excellence across CUNY community colleges. Since 2006, the Community College Research Grant program (CCRG) has invested in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and undergraduate research projects. The 2020 CCRG competition is accepting collaborative research proposals from faculty teams across disciplines for awards of up to $15,000. Proposals are encouraged from all disciplines. Pedagogical research is encouraged but NOT required. Proposals must reflect the active engagement of at least two investigators (see eligibility rules below) and inclusion of undergraduate student research participation is highly encouraged.It is anticipated that up to 5-7 Collaborative Research Incentive grants will be awarded with budgets not exceeding $15,000.EligibilityPIs must be tenured or tenure-track faculty of CUNY community colleges. (Research faculty, lecturers, adjunct faculty, and full-time Higher Education Officers are ineligible. Only one proposal per faculty member is permitted. Proposals must involve collaboration of at least two eligible PIs from within or across CUNY colleges. Collaboration can be with a faculty member from a 4-year college, but no CCRG funding may be allocated directly to the senior college faculty member. Faculty who were awarded a CCRG within the past two years (Round 15 in 2018 or Round 16 in 2019) are ineligible. Faculty are limited to one submission to the Community College Research Grant program (either Track 1 or Track 2). If conducting research with human subjects, appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB) approvals must be in place prior to the release of funds. For more information about IRB and human subjects research, visit PI must submit a one-page report at the end of the funding period. Guidelines on the structure of this report can be found on the CCRG program webpage. Future eligibility for participation in this and other internal funding programs offered through the CUNY Research Office is contingent on the submission of a post-award report.Proposal Development and StructureThe proposal package should include a project summary, a signature page, a project narrative, a budget, a budget justification, a 2-page biosketch and a list of current and pending funding. Project NarrativeThe project narrative is limited to five pages (12-point font, 1” margins) and include the following sections:Research QuestionBriefly describe the project research question or hypothesis, which should be situated within the relevant literature. Research MethodDescribe how the procedure and processes needed to answer your research question or test your hypothesis? What method will be employed to collect data? Include preliminary data if applicable, although this is not necessary. If the proposal involves pedagogical research, it must include an assessment plan. Describe formative and/or summative assessment strategies to measure research outcomes and the effectiveness of the experimental design. Explain how the project assesses student success. A good example of an introductory guideline for assessment strategies can be found here: and provide references for the literature for both your research question development and when referring to established methods. Next StepsBriefly (a paragraph) describe the plan for leveraging the CCRG funding, if awarded.Budget & Budget Justification Budgets of up to $15,000 will be considered. The awards will be disbursed as tax levy funds and must be spent during the September 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 funding period. Funds may be used for research assistants or for Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) (e.g. research supplies, equipment, travel, and field expenses.)Funds may also be requested for salary (e.g. summer salary or reduced teaching load, with approval from senior campus administration).The budget justification should detail the distribution of resources. Faculty who function solely as consultants or in an advisory capacity are not eligible to be named as co-PIs. Proposals will be evaluated in three areas: technical merit, feasibility, and external funding potential.
