Minnesota is actually a fairly flat state, with the highest areas occurring in the northeastern and southwestern portions and most of the middle taken up by a low-lying river basin. The highest point is Eagle Mountain, at 2301 feet (in Cook County) and the lowest point is 602 feet at Lake Superior.
