SCHOOL DISTRICT Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools are four-year comprehensive high schools in Township High School District #113. The schools are located 25 miles north of Chicago in suburban residential areas. The district is accredited by the State of Illinois and the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. It is also a member of National Association for College Admission Counseling, Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling and National College Board, and complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice.

FACULTY There are 158 faculty members in Deerfield High School. 90% hold Masters degrees and 5% hold PhD degrees.

MAXIMUM and MINIMUM LOAD Students must have a minimum of five credits including PE each semester. Each semester course earns one credit. In determining a student's maximum load, DHS considers the overall program, including extracurricular activities.

INDEPENDENT STUDY Students may propose independent study projects to take advanced study not otherwise offered in the curriculum. Independent study courses may earn one credit per semester or two credits for a year. A project can be taken on a pass/fail basis or for a grade. Projects of unusual difficulty may qualify for Honors designation on a pass-fail basis.

GRADING SCALE Weighted and unweighted GPA are reported on transcripts.

Honors and Advanced Placement These accelerated courses require students to work independently and demonstrate high levels of critical and analytical thinking.

College Preparatory College preparatory courses demand high levels of cognitive and problem solving processes. The instructional pace is rigorous and emphasizes curricular depth, breadth and enrichment.

College Preparatory Survey College preparatory survey courses provide instruction to enhance skills in reading comprehension, writing and research, critical thinking and reasoning.
