Recalls Issued on Several Dog Foods for Potentially Toxic Levels of Vitamin D

Both the FDA and certain petfood manufacturers have issued mandatory and voluntary recalls of some dog foods for containing potentially toxic levels of Vitamin D.

Excess vitamin D in the diet can cause vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss. Vitamin D at toxic levels can cause kidney failure and death. Pet owners whose dogs have been eating the recalled brands and are showing these symptoms should contact their veterinarians. In most cases, complete recovery is expected after discontinuation of feeding.

Below are the brands and associated product codes with suspected toxic levels of Vitamin D. Please check your dog's food for these item numbers and if found, immediately discontinue feeding the food to your dog.
