Spring Choreography Assignment

Assemble’

Alvin High School Student Showcase

Assemble is a group choreography project where students will choose groups of 4-8 members from their class period and create original choreography to music of their choice.

Time Line:

1. Select group members, type of dance (i.e. - hip hop, ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern etc...) and 1 song. Tuesday 4/28 (quiz grade)

2. Music is first come first serve. You cannot change songs. You cannot change groups. Music must be approved by 4/28.

A final/edited version of the music must be provided to Mrs. Robinson 4/30. You may also ask Mrs. Robinson to edit by no later than 4/30. You must provide the song and give her a blank CD for her to burn the edited version of music for you. You may not choose more than 1 song for your dance. (quiz grade) Each group’s song must be a minimum of 1:10 but not longer than 1:20

3. In class Choreography observations (test grades) 5/2, 5/9, 5/16

4. Show performance (test grade) Monday 5/19 6:15- 8:30

When selecting your group, be aware that it’s not the best idea to choose your friends in the class if they don’t actively participate daily and/or have attendance issues. If a member of your group is placed in ISS or ADAPT and they are released prior to the show, your group is responsible for that person.

All choreography must be done in class as a group and the choreography may not repeat.

Music which includes inappropriate language and/or subject matter is not acceptable.

Every member must have a copy of the music with them every day in class.

Each group is responsible for providing their own music & playing device- YOU CANNOT USE THE STEREOS THAT BELONG TO MRS. ROBINSON! You must bring the music playing device to school daily and be able to lock it in a secure place. You may use your phones or other electronic devices during this time for the group choreography only. Phones and other devices that are not being used for the project will be confiscated. Loud music will not be tolerated during class.

All observations are worth test grades. All groups will participate in the presentation of choreography in class every Fruday. Every person that is present in class on the day of the test must participate( individuals cannot sit out. NO EXCEPTIONS!

You must have a copy of your music on a CD on test days- NO PHONES. We will play all music on the stereo for observations only.

If members of your group are not dressed out, do not know the choreography or refuse to do the choreography, your group’s grade will be deducted.

If you do not have your music, your group may not perform and everyone will receive a “0” for their test grade. If you don’t have anything to show or have not added on to your choreography, your group will receive a “0” for participation for the week.

Evaluations will be based on the amount of the choreography that is completed. Each time your group performs for observations, you should have added a minimum of 6 counts of 8 of choreography (6,12,18,24…). Each student’s grade is dependent on everyone in the group knowing the dance.

Props are allowed. The group must provide them and bring them each time you perform in class. (hats, canes, chairs, bandanas etc…)

We STRONGLY RECOMMEND selecting your group’s costume based on something that everyone already owns. (i.e. - same color shirt/ pants) If you have any questions about this part of the project, please see Mrs. Robinson. It is not necessary to purchase clothing/costumes for this project.

The following dance terms must be included in your choreography: Chasse, ball change, pivot turn, jazz square, 3 step turn, pas de bourree, cross point, jete, pirouette, floor work, partner work, levels, opposition and formation changes (minimum of 3). You should also include different arms positions and feet positions.

The final performance is the dance show on Tuesday, May 20 at 7pm in the AHS auditorium. All performers are free, however all spectators are $3.00 each. Tickets are available at the door only. Each performer must attend and watch the show in its entirety. This performance is worth a test grade.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Robinson at Ehamons@ or (281) 245- 2617.
