Aviation Technology InstructorColorado Northwestern Community College is seeking a full-time instructor to teach in the Aviation Technology Program. Successful applicants will demonstrate an ability to teach, guide, mentor and evaluate student learning through Private, Instrument and Commercial, as well as through advanced ratings as appropriate. Minimum requirements include an Associate Degree in Aviation or related field from an accredited college or university and enrollment in or willingness to enroll in a Bachelor’s Degree program, Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Instrument Airplane Ratings, Flight Instructor, with Instrument Single and Multi-Engine Land Ratings, and a minimum of two years of experience in the aviation industry and/or experience as a flight instructor. Preferred qualification include a Bachelor’s degree, Airline Transport Certificate with Airline or Corporate/Air Taxi experience and two years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level preferred. AVIATION TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTORSECTION I – Background Information:DEPARTMENT: Aviation TechnologyDIVISION: Instructional ServicesCLASSIFICATION TITLE: Instructor (1.2 fte)SCHEDULED WORK HOURS: VariesTOTAL SCHEDULED HOURS PER WEEK: 40CAMPUS LOCATION: Rangely WORK TELEPHONE NO.: TBDTITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Aviation Technology Program DirectorSICK LEAVE: 10 hours per month worked PERSONAL LEAVE: 16 hrs per year (taken from accrued sick leave)SECTION II – Summary of Major Functions:Teach a full-time teaching load in the Aviation Technology Program to include both didactic courses and flight instruction. Develop course syllabi and select course materials. Assist in student recruitment and program enhancement. Maintain office hours, attend departmental meetings, and advise and mentor students in the Aviation Technology program. SECTION III – Primary Duties:Become familiar with the community college philosophy and the policies/procedures of CNCC.Keep informed of current educational trends, both in general and in one’s own specific field.Understand the student group being served and work toward improving student’s skills.Meet all scheduled classes and be fully prepared for each class meeting.Evaluate students’ work in a thorough and equitable manner.Keep accurate records and maintain up-to-date files on course policies/syllabi.Teach an equivalent of thirty (30) credit hours per academic year; not including summer terms.Schedule, post, and meet five (5) office hours each week.Attend all meetings appropriate to the assigned position.Actively serve on College committees as necessary.Accept assignments in evening programs, occupational programs, and student-life activities when appropriate.Assist in registration, orientation, testing and advising when requested to do so.Participate in the annual Honor’s Banquet and Commencement exercises.Perform other duties as assigned by the Aviation Technology Program Director and/or the Dean of Instruction, Rangely Campus.SECTION IV – Secondary dutiesProvide assistance and guidance to students and instructors in regards to safe flying conditions given weather conditions and other environmental factors.Confer with the Program Director on the condition of all school aircraft, flight training devices, and facilities.Instruct Ground School classes.Instruct Private, Instrument, and Commercial flight students.Instruct Initial CFI applicants.Instruct Multi-engine students. Instruct in flight training simulator municate effectively in both verbally and in writing.Perform basic computer tasks in working with MS Word, Excel, e-mail communications, and learning management systems (Desire to Learn).SECTION V – Degrees, Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:Minimum or Required:Associate Degree in Aviation or related field from an accredited college or university and enrollment in or willingness to enroll in a Bachelor’s Degree mercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Instrument Airplane Ratings.Flight Instructor, with Instrument Single and Multi-Engine Land Ratings: FAA.A minimum of two years of experience in the aviation industry and/or experience as a flight instructor.
