Webquest: The Classical Age Of Greece

Problem/ Introduction:

Urgent! Philip II of Macedonia is planning an invasion of ancient Greece. However, before he can launch his attack he needs his spies, which of course is you, to collect data concerning ancient Greek geography, history, and culture. After you complete your mission Philip can begin his conquest of ancient Greece.

Tasks / Missions/ Products:

Students will create the following projects and reports as they collect the data needed in order for Philip II to begin his invasion of ancient Greece:

1) Create a short story / play based on concepts and characters of Greek Mythology.

2) Create a map of ancient Greece.

3) Create a timeline of Classical Greek history.

4) Create / Construct a physical project related Classical Greece.

5) Research and write 4 reports concerning aspects of Classical Greek culture and history.

a. City-States: Compare / Contrast Athens and Sparta

b. Greek Mythology

c. Greek Culture

d. Classical Greek Military History

How To Divide Products & Topics

1) Separate students into groups of four.

2) Each member of the group is assigned 1 product (Choosing from products #1-4).

3) Each member of the group is assigned 1 report under product #5 (Choosing from reports a-d).

4) Have students fill in who is doing each part of the project on the Group Assignment sheet. (See link to Group Assignment sheet)

End Result / Final Product

1) Short story / play - All members of the group will present the short story or play to the class.

2) Physical project – All members of the group will present the physical project to the class.

3) Map, timeline, & reports - All three products will be put in a group folder labeled “Top Secret” with the names of each of the group members written in the lower left-hand corner.

Each member of the group will not only be assigned products and reports to complete, they will also have a group role. Group Roles: Chairman / Chairwoman, editor, secretary, and speaker of the group.
