| |iniquity and bring in everlasting righteousness (69th week ended when Jesus was crucified, and the 70th week is still in the future.) Then, Cyrus |

| |challenged all God’s people (Jews and Israelis) to return to Jerusalem and build a 2nd temple for God. |

|537 |Daniel saved from the lion’s den (Dan. 6). Daniel then fasted and saw a vision of Jesus (Dan. 10). Jesus told Daniel about the future kings of Persia and |

| |Greece (Dan. 11:2-34) and the future leader of a world government during the end times tribulation (Dan. 11:35-12:13). Daniel finished writing his book and|

| |probably died soon afterwards (at around 91 years old). |

|536 |First group (49,897) returned from captivity to Jerusalem under Zerubbabel and Joshua. They restored the altar and worship and kept the Feast of |

| |Tabernacles. |

|535 |Builders laid foundation of the 2nd temple. |

|529 |Cyrus died and his son Artaxerxes (also called Cambyses or Ahasuerus) took over. The Samaritans wrote a slanderous letter to Artaxerxes, who stopped the |

|522 |Artaxerxes died, and Darius the Great began to reign as king of Persia. |

|521 |Darius discovered the decree of Cyrus, so he re-issued the challenge to rebuild the 2nd temple, and work resumed |

|517 |Temple construction completed |

|516 |Temple dedicated & Passover celebrated |

|485 |Darius the Great died, and his son, Ahasuerus (also called Xerxes) began to reign as king of Persia |

|480 |Esther was made Queen of Persia |

|474 |Plot against Jews; Haman hanged; Mordecai exalted; Jews defended themselves |

|459 |Artaxerxes (Esther’s stepson) commissioned the Jews to go to Jerusalem, and he gave them silver and gold for renovations. |

|458 |Ezra led another group of Jews to Jerusalem |

|444 |Artaxerxes (Esther’s stepson) commissioned Nehemiah, his cupbearer, to go back and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, thus setting the clock ticking for the |

| |first 69 weeks mentioned in Dan. 9. Nehemiah helped lead the project, which took a miraculous 52 days. |
