Objectives: To give educators an overview of the European Union and address issues affecting Europe and EU/US relations, but also EU-Russia/Eastern European relations.

To learn the contours of the historical and cultural development of understudied regions of the world. To understand the relationship between the past and the present contemporary dynamics of Russian, Eastern European and Balkan societies and politics. To place the narratives of the Russian, Eastern European and Balkan past and present within the larger trajectory of World History and European History for Middle and High School Students.

Expectations: The teachers can expect a day-long interactive workshop with experts on Europe, Russian, Eastern European and Balkan Histories and Societies. The goals of the day will include not only deepening the narrative and general knowledge about the region, but also strategizing about how to integrate the region into existing courses for middle and high school students. We will provide tools that the teachers can take home to transform their classroom teaching in a variety of substantive ways.
