Class Rules

1. Respect yourself, other students, and your teacher.

2. Be a team player! Plan, participate, and progress together!

3. Food and drink should be left at home unless there are special conditions. (Specify with a doctor’s note.)

4. Be energetic and pay attention to lessons when class is in session.

5. Listen when others are speaking as you would hope they would also listen to you!

6. Prejudices, judgments, and bullying should remain outside this classroom.

7. Complete all work to the best of your ability and you will be rewarded.

8. Class time is MY time. Keep all other conversation to a minimum.

Grading

Assignments are graded according to the amount of time, effort, and participation put into the assignment! I do not GIVE grades. YOU EARN THEM! If you have questions on an assignment, ASK ME! If you do assignments as stated then grades should not be a stressful issue!

Tests/ Projects = 50%

Quizzes/ Labs = 25%

Classwork/ Homework = 25%

Extra credit opportunities will be made available to all students. It is YOUR CHOICE as to whether you decide to take advantage of these opportunities.

Do no ASK for extra credit. I will decide if you need it and deserve it.

Levels of Consequences:

If you choose to misbehave, expect the following consequences:

Offenses:

First ( Verbal Warning

Second ( Teacher/ Student

Conference

Third ( Parent/ Teacher/

Student Conference

Fourth ( Disciplinary Action Sent

to Principal

Subsequent offenses will receive immediate disciplinary action. (You will be written up!)

Students who are sent to Chill-Out will always be written up for misbehavior. It’s not a vacation to be out of my class.

Tardy Policies and Cell Phone policies are outlined in the West Craven Student Handbook (pgs 23-24) and should be reviewed by parents and students. ***REMEMBER: Students who fail to surrender their cell phone to the teacher when requested will receive IMMEDIATE disciplinary action that can result in a total of 10 days of OSS!***

Bathroom passes:

No student will be sent to the restroom for the first 30 minutes of class. Each student has 5 minutes to go and return from the restroom. Otherwise, the student will be written up for skipping if they cannot verify their whereabouts.

Students get three chances to go to the bathroom each 9 weeks. Students who ask to go more than this will have to make up the time spent in the bathroom after school or during lunch. Failure to make up time will result in the amount of time taken in the bathroom subtracted from quiz grades (1 point for each minute).

Class Participation:

If you do not participate in class, you are only hindering yourself. Failure to participate in classroom activities can result in a grade of less than 100% on assignments. Sleeping in class will hinder your chances of PASSING THE CLASS.

***If you are not feeling well, please notify me at the beginning of class! ***

Missed exams or assignments:

Assignments missed because of absence or other school activities should be made up within 3 days of the absence. After that, the assignment will receive a grade of 0% and the student will not be allowed to make it up! Tests and exams can be made up after school with prior notice to the teacher. If a time isn’t available after school, students must make up tests during the school day when time is available.

Lab Safety:

Laboratory safety will be reviewed in class during the first days of the semester. These rules should be followed whenever laboratory activities are taking place! These rules may also be used on tests and quizzes.

Materials:

Students may use materials provided to enhance learning in the classroom. Activities in science are essential to learning! I will give students specific instructions concerning materials and they are expected to follow these instructions themselves and in groups with their classmates. When students are finished with materials, they should return them to where they were obtained and they should not leave the classroom with these materials without permission! If students do not return materials, they may receive less credit on assignments or be fined for loss of property by the school! I will account for all items before students are allowed to leave the room. Students will not be allowed to leave unless everything is accounted for!

Academic dishonesty:

Anyone found cheating on or sharing a quiz, paper, test, or other assignment will receive a zero. Students will also be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action. PLAGIARISM IS NOT ALLOWED IN THIS CLASSROOM OR IN THIS SCHOOL!!!

End-Of-Coarse Test:

Biology is required to graduate high school. All students must show mastery of concepts by passing the EOC! If you don’t pass the EOC, you will not pass the class! You only get ONE chance to take the EOC, if you fail to pass then you will be required to take Biology until you pass the EOC.
