AUDIO DESIGN ASSOCIATES INTRODUCES

A NEW POWER AMPLIFIER DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR 7.1 SURROUND SOUND

THE PTM-8150 EIGHT CHANNEL HOME THEATER POWER AMPLIFIER

WHITE PLAINS, New York (September 7, 2001) - Audio Design Associates, Inc. (ADA) announced that it has unveiled a new eight channel power amplifier to its multi-channel power amplifier line, the PTM-8150. Other multi-channel home theater power amplifiers offered by ADA include: the PTM-650 Single Rack Space, Fan Cooled Six Channel Power Amplifier ideal for modest size home theaters; the PTM-6150 THX Ultra Six Channel Power Amplifier recognized by many as the ideal home theater power amplifier; and the MPA-501 and PF-2501 Five Channel and Two Channel Ultra High Power Home Theater Amplifier. The MPA-501 is THX Ultra certified and the world’s most powerful THX multi-channel power amplifier. The PF-2501 utilizes the same power supply and modules as the MPA-501 for two additional channels when running a 7.1 channel home theater system rather than a 5.1 channel home theater system. For passive subwoofers, the MPA-501/PF2501 amplifier package is coupled with the PBA-2000 Ultra High-Power Parametric Bass Power Amplifier.

The PTM-8150 is in part based on the design of ADA’s widely successful PTM-6150. Introduced in 1995, the PTM-6150 became the favorite of editors and won out numerous product face-offs against other home theater amplifiers. The PTM-6150 serves as the muscle for thousands of home theaters the world over. The PTM-8150 takes this lineage and applies two more channels for the newer 7.1 home theater platforms. It is specifically designed to enhance the home theater experience for THX Surround EX and DTS ES.

The PTM-8150 delivers 140 Watts per each of its eight channels into speakers operating at 8 Ohms. For the more common THX home theater speakers operating at 4 Ohms, the PTM-8150 delivers nearly 250 Watts per channel. The amplifier is extremely powerful and capable of running the most demanding speakers. The PTM-8150 is also stable down to 2 Ohms. The first 200 Watts are Class-A. After passing this threshold, the amplifier goes into A/B operation. The PTM-8150 is also extraordinarily clean, running at less than 0.005% THD at 4 Ohms. The backbone of the PTM-8150 rests in its massive power supply. A custom low-noise power transformer is coupled with four soda-can sized filter capacitors (1/4 Farad) for high-current output. The MOSFET output transistors take nothing but current and deliver thunderous power. And since a single power supply is used to drive all eight channels, the amplifier has the headroom to provide more power to the channels that need it during high-impact scenes.

The PTM-8150 packs all of this muscle into a three-rack space chassis (5-1/4 inches in height). For non-rack systems, the PTM-8150 is also available in a Select Series version, which is ideal for shelf mounting. The amplifier incorporates a fan for force-air cooling, which maintains the thermal load and protects the amplifier. The front panel features two switches and an eight-channel output display. The power switch turns the amplifier on and off and the display power switch turns off just the bouncing LED display, for those who might situate the amplifier to either the right or left side of the viewing area.

“What we have here is the perfect power amplifier option for our all new Mach II Cinema series preamplifiers, both of which are 7.1.” states Richard D. Stoerger, Vice President and C.O.O. “The PTM-8150 will be even more successful than the PTM-6150, simply because the high-end home theater market place is more mature than it was in 1995. The PTM-8150 will become the amplifier of choice, much like its predecessor, the 6150.”

Priced at $3799, the PTM-8150 delivers ultimate home theater power at under $500 per channel. “Given its incredible power and all-high-current output muscle,” adds Chuck Kittelson, ADA’s Director of Sales, “the PTM-8150 will set the new standard for 7.1 home theater amplification. And because all eight channels fit into a package that is only thee racks spaces in height, it will be a favorite of custom installers who are finding it ever more difficult to cram gear into equipment racks.”

Headquartered in White Plains, New York, ADA has been the undisputed leader in the fields of high-end home theater and multi-room technology since 1977.
