DIY Canvas Lettering Art

For our neighbors, moving into their forever home after spending years on the streets is a joyous occasion. While we provide all the essentials our neighbors need, they still may be lacking those personal touches. Having colorful, and hopeful messages in the form of art they can hang on their walls is perfect! The essentials we furnish our neighbors' homes with are always high-quality, and new or just as good as new, we hope you give our neighbors the same consideration, and show them how much they are valued by providing a high quality product. We call it `giving your best first!'

Here are instructions for creating canvas lettering art : 1. Decide on your word and design 2. Gather your supplies 3. Create your stencil with tape then paint 4. Deliver to Community First! Village

Gather your Supplies: - Canvas (keep them on the smaller side, think: 5X7, 8X10, or 12X12) - Tape to create your word or design. Masking tape or painters tape work best (if you have stencil letter stickers, that would work as well- as you can see from some of the examples below) - Paint: acrylic works well, but you could use watercolors, or even spray paint

Decide on your word and design - We've included some messages below to help you get started. But we recommend sticking to a 4-letter word that's easy to tape out such as: HOME, LOVE, HOPE - A heart or a cross is always a great option if you'd like to do that! - Remember, it needs to be simple enough that you can lay the tape out in the word and have it fit on the canvas - The pictures below give you some ideas of the different kind of paints/patterns you can use - You can choose to split your word onto two lines (like the word "love" below) or you can lay the tape across diagonally, or straight across

Create your stencil with tape and paint - Once you decide on your word and layout, you'll want to lay your tape tightly on the canvas first - Paint the canvas. You can paint completely over the tape - Once the paint has dried completely, peel your tape off to reveal your design!

Deliver to Community First! Village - Feel free to include a personal note on the back of the picture frame for our neighbors who are moving home - Get in touch with the Volunteer team to coordinate drop-off!
