FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…
I want to begin with a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who attended the 4:00PM Mass last weekend for the intention of my mom on her First Anniversary. It was a great consolation for me to see so many people there among my family and friends and all of you! Of course, I know there was another good reason to come to the 4:00 – to get in line early for the Parish Dinner to follow! I am grateful to all who came to the Mass, and/or the Parish Dinner last Saturday! We served over 325 meals. Thank you to those who waited in the serving line for the food. I heard from many of you that you thought it was worth it! Hindsight is always 20/20 – I wish we had tried seating everyone first and then calling up tables by number – next time – oops, next time? Another handmade 300 golumbki? – I can’t even think about it now! Would you believe – a few of the golumbki from our Dinner made their way to Ohio and were eaten there on Saturday night? My friend Fr. Mike Nimocks who went to the Alumni Days at our Seminary in Boston this past week, stopped to see me and I gave him a few golumbki for him and his sister and brother-in-law. They texted they were thinking of us on Saturday as they were eating them! My thanks to the ladies of the Rosary Sodality and all of the other Bakers who made some really wonderful and plentiful desserts! I cannot thank enough those Parishioners who helped in the kitchen – yes, I made ALL 305 of the golumbki, and did some of the other food prep, but it was the “Kitchen Team” who coordinated keeping the food hot and ready to go on the serving line, that made things run smoothly! Some people commented how quickly we were able to pull such a big event together - just one week from Saturday to Saturday! Thanks to our parishioner – Alice Dawicki, former owner of “Soup’s On” – who made the delicious soup for Saturday night. As you know this was an opportunity for me to take the week of the first anniversary of my mom’s passing, and make it both a celebration and remembrance of her, and an opportunity for us to begin a Fund for a New Heating System for our Parish Center. Thanks to all those who bought a chance at the 50/50 Raffle or made an outright donation to the New Fund. Congratulations to the 50/50 winners (split 3 ways). The great news is that we cleared $3,856 from the dinner! All of which will go into starting the Fund for the heating system. I also received some generous checks from some of you to help “start-up” the New Heating Fund – thank you so much! We’ll also have the large clear plastic container in the Gathering Space in the weeks to come, for you to drop spare change in. Remember the Coffee Can Collections we have done in the past? We’ve always done well with collections for some of our larger needs, with simply collecting spare change! I think the best part of the Dinner on Saturday was the great feel in the room of seeing the Parish Center filled with people. It’s something that would gladden the heart of any Pastor – and it did, me! Thank you again to those who came and to those who worked! Special Thanks to our Parish St. Joseph Workers who attended the dinner or who came afterward to fold up the tables and the chairs in the Hall – it was done so quickly thanks to all of you! We look forward to future fundraiser events in the parish that will keep the fund growing! God bless you all!
I just want to remind everyone that our Parish Bus Trip to the “Mercy and Mary Retreat Day” with Fr. Michael Gaitely on November 11, in Charlton MA, will be coming up in just a few weeks. I am going to ask everyone at this time, who signed up for the trip, to drop your payment for the bus fee of $5.00 and the fee for the Retreat Day of $49.95, in the collection basket in the next few weeks – that will confirm your seat on the bus! As of last count we still have a few seats left on the bus so if you are interested in attending, please call Sue in the Parish Office. Reminder: the bus leaves from the Parish Center at 6:30AM and returns at 8:00PM.
Just a reminder that our “Annual Mass of Remembrance” on November 1 is coming up as well. It’s a great opportunity to remember someone who has gone before you – a long time ago – or just in the past year. As always we encourage you to bring a framed picture of the person to place before the altar or just to come and sit in the shadows that night and reflect. It’s a “candlelight” Mass that we began to do by candlelight a few years ago during the October Snowstorm, and we have continued celebrating the Mass by candlelight ever since. Come and remember those you love, and reflect upon the reassurance that God gives us, that we will indeed, see them again!
God Bless, Fr. Dan

ADORATION FOR NOVEMBER
Adoration will be held Thursday, November 2, from 7:30am-8pm. The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Holy Souls are those who have died in the state of grace but are not yet free from all punishment due to their unforgiven venial sins and all other sins already forgiven for which satisfaction is still to be make. They are certain of entering heaven but first they must be prepared in Purgatory. The Holy Souls cannot help themselves because for them the night has come when no man can work. It is a great privilege of brotherhood that we can shorten their time of separation from God by our prayers, good works and, especially the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Merciful Father, in union with the Church Triumphant in heaven, I beg of You, have mercy on the souls in purgatory. Be mindful of Your eternal love for them and show them your mercy because of the boundless merits of Your beloved Son. Be pleased to free them from pain and sorrow that they may soon enjoy eternal peace and happiness. God, Heavenly Father, I thank You for the grace of perseverance which You have granted to the souls of the faithful departed.
Loving Savior, Jesus Christ, You are the King of kings in the land of eternal bliss. I beg of You, in Your mercy hear my prayer and set free the holy souls in purgatory.... Lead them from the prison of darkness to the light and freedom of the children of God in the Kingdom of Your glory. Loving Savior, I thank You for having redeemed the poor souls with Your most Precious Blood and saved them from eternal death. God, Holy Spirit, enkindle in me the fire of Your Divine love. Arouse my faith and confidence, and graciously accept the prayers I offer You for the suffering souls in purgatory.
-Rev. Lawrence G. Lovasik SVD, Divine Word Missionary
Pope Francis’ prayer intention for November is that Christians in Asia, bearing witness to the Gospel in word and deed, may promote dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding, especially with those of other religions.
