Imagine a hands-on art class with words as your medium. I’ll be teaching interesting words in a weekly thematic format. Some theme weeks will be: Cooking Week (We’re eating what?) Spy Week: (Slang to sound like a native); Mythology (There’s a story behind that). We’ll do word studies, master spelling, and creatively use these conquered treasures. Word learning will be based on a multisensory approach (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) utilizing games, practice bees, and show and tell. Study outside class, completion of assignments, and participation in class are indispensable to make it fun for everyone. Assignments will take around 30 minutes each week plus time to learn the spelling words. Spelling Bee champion will receive a prize of $20. Rewards will be given for weekly class achievements. This 12-week course will use audio/visual teaching and a great deal of hands-on practice using manikins with different scenarios. This would be a great class for a child who is considering a job in babysitting for friends and family or anyone who wants a refresher course in life saving techniques. Certification (for an additional fee) is available to those who qualify. Some basic scales will be taught as well as “fills” when moving from chord to chord. The participants will learn how to accompany each other in various styles. As skill and confidence increases, we will progress to a group performance at the End of Session Program to gain the most from this class, it is recommended that each participant practice 20-30 minutes each day with emphasis on class teachings. Vocabulary study will focus on using English derivatives to intuit recognition of and meaning for Latin words. Vocabulary and structure will be further reinforced by learning Latin mottoes and phrases. The goal of the class will be to inspire the participant to find joy in the language and prepare him with a head start for any high school credit level Latin study.
