Electric Vehicle Incentives Available in Connecticut

Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR)

CHEAPR is an incentive, of up to $5,000, available to Connecticut residents, businesses and municipalities for the purchase or lease of a new eligible battery electric vehicle (BEV), fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The base MSRP for all eligible vehicles must not exceed $42,000 for PHEV/BEV models or $60,000 for FCEV models.

Federal Plug-In Electric Drive Vehicle Credit

A federal income tax credit is available to buyers of new plug-in electric vehicles. The credit ranges from $2,500 to $7,500 based on vehicle battery capacity.

Note that this credit, which became available in 2009, will begin to phase out once auto manufacturers meet their sales quota.

To get this credit: Complete IRS Form 8936, Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit and submit with your income tax return.
