I hope that this Christmas finds you well

I hope that this Christmas finds you well!

When I was much younger, a friend remarked that as one gets older and slows down, time passes more quickly. Although this is contrary to Albert’s theory, I find it to be true. The months pass like weeks, so that it seems no time since Christmas 2009.

Although retired, because of my long association with the High-school Physics examination, I have taken a large interest in the outreach program of the Physics department. This involves organising a series of fortnightly lectures for senior high-school students, and the annual Physics Teachers conference. Fortunately, also, my colleagues let me keep aware of some of the interesting research going on at Melbourne.

Over the past few years I realised that walking was becoming a bit painful. Indeed this year it became clear to me that my right hip was wearing out….to the extent that, in September I had it successfully renewed….amazing what can be done these days.

After several years of drought, this Spring brought much-needed rain, and my garden has been a picture. It would be great if you could enjoy it too. I hope that if you are travelling in the vicinity, you will call in.
