Miss Gater Maths SetWeek Beginning 15/6/20Morning everyone. Hope you had a great weekend and managed to complete your Maths without any problems last week and enjoyed getting outside...shame the weather wasn’t great!This week, we are going to move onto a different area of Maths – Volume and Capacity.This is a new area for us this year (although you will have looked at it in previous sessions) but hopefully the explanations in each task are clear and understandable and you are able to complete the work. Just try your best.It would also be great if you could email me to let me know how you’re getting on with the work we are covering. This is our last week of maths sets as next week we will be working on a whole school grid but I want you to know that you have been a wonderful set to teach and so much fun!Remember, if you have any problems or questions, please contact me using my email address which is below – kendal.gater@craiglockhart.edin.sch.ukNumeracy and MathsLearning Intentions –All Tasks –To read scales when measuring volume.To investigate and explain cubed numbers.To estimate the volume of objects.To describe volume in cubic units.To convert units of volume.Activities and ResourcesWe are continuing to use the National Academy website so you will need to use the usual steps to access the work.To complete the tasks below, you need go through the following procedure to start each of the tasks.Copy and paste the following website into your browser then search. down to Week 5Select the day you are working on i.e. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or FridayThen click on the Maths lesson for that day. You don’t need to do the lessons on these days you can do them when you want.Work your way through the lesson using the next activity button on the bottom right of your screen. The stages for each lesson are – Start LessonQuizVideo (very important as it teaches you the Learning Intentions)QuizLesson Complete.Make sure you complete each stage. Complete the work on the slides on the video in your jotter/whiteboard – use full screen so you can see them clearly. I have given more information about this in each of the tasks. Go back through the above procedure for the next task etc until you have completed all of them.Task 1Use the instructions above to access Week 5. You then complete the activities for Monday ’s Maths lesson.Pages 5,6 and 7 – Reading Scales – Your Turn – complete answers on your whiteboard or in your plete the Independent Task on your whiteboard or in your jotter and check the answers.Additional Practice Have a go at some of the work here to practice what you have been doing.Can be found in the following link if the icon doesn’t work – 2Use the instructions above to access Week 5. You then complete the activities for Tuesday’s Maths lesson.On page 8, complete the work in your jotter or whiteboard.On First Five Cubed numbers – copy and compete the table in your jotter – use formal written multiplication method if you need to.Independent Task –copy the rest of the table and complete in your jotter - use formal written multiplication method if you need to.Additional PracticeContinue the table that you completed above finding cubed numbers e.g. 11 cubed, 12 cubed etc.How far can you go? Don’t use a calculator – use formal method or mental maths methods.Task 3Use the instructions above to access Week 5. You then complete the activities for Wednesday’s Maths plete p3 and 8 on your plete p12 answers in your jotter.Independent Task – complete in your jotter.Additional PracticeEstimate the volume of objects around your home. Make sure you can check them to see how accurate your estimate is by measuring the length/height/width and calculating the actual volume (so don’t choose items that are very large – perhaps items that have lengths/widths/heights that are no more than 30cm)Have a go at some of the work below to practice what you have been doing.Can be found in the following link if the icon doesn’t work just look for the icon – 4Use the instructions above to access Week 5.
