Making Geriatric Music Therapy More Than Just a Group Sing-a-long: Challenge yourself to retain the goal-oriented nature of music therapy within the geriatric population and see the endless intervention possibilities.

11:00-11:55 Intervention ‘Swap Shop’ with speaker Karen Darga

Music in Early Childhood: Learn developmental milestones along with musical skill development in young children. Karen will share several interventions during this Intervention Swap she has found successful with the early childhood population. Attendees are welcome to bring an intervention idea to share with the group as well.

1:30-2:25 Hospice and Palliative Care Music Therapy with speaker Tamra Hansen

Tamra will discuss the role of music therapy within hospice, including common goals, interventions, and population descriptions in this growing field.

2:30-3:25“What am I doing and why am I doing it?” Evidence Based Practice Through Neurologic Music

Therapy Interventions with speaker Richelle Kroening: Learn more about Neurologic Music Therapy and how it expands your knowledge of music, specifically rhythm, and its impact on the brain. Also, take a peak at how to use NMT for functional outcomes in a variety of settings including hospitals, schools, and private practice.

3:30-4:30 It's All Part of the Job...the Roles of the Music Therapist in an Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Setting with speaker

Mary Stryck: While the primary focus of any music therapist is to provide treatment services, there are several roles a music therapist assumes when working as a member of an inpatient psychiatric multidisciplinary team. This presentation will explore how music therapists provide treatment, information, and advocacy for clients all in a day's work on an acute inpatient psychiatric unit.

Info: Please bring an intervention idea OR a problem solving/clinical situation to brainstorm interventions during the ‘Swap Shop’. 

Cost: This is a FREE event to all WCMT students, $5 for non-member students, $20 for WCMT professionals and $40 for non-member professionals. This is NOT a pre-approved CMTE. To qualify for the FREE student registration and discounted professional registration, a membership form may be completed at the workshop or submitted electronically prior to the workshop.

Meals: $7 lunch fee for all attendees. Lunch will consist of Subway sandwiches, chips, cookie and soda or water. Breakfast (pastry/fruit/coffee/juice) is being provided by WCMT. If you choose to bring a bag lunch, simply do not mark the $7 check box on the registration form.

Registration: On-line registration due by Friday, January 29th. On-line registration can be completed at or through snail mail. Payment can be made on-line using paypal or by personal check.
