CODI LYNN SINGLETON

Codi Lynn Singleton, 24, Birmingham, Ala.,

formerly of Brandenburg, Ky., passed away June

23, 2016.

She was born October 15, 1991 to Renetta J.

Singleton and Steven J. Bicoll.

She is survived by her mother, Renetta J. Singleton Johnston, Brandenburg; father, Steven J.

Bicoll, Mich.; stepfather, Curt Johnston, Brandenburg; stepmother, Brady Lee Bicoll, Mich.;

sisters, Josee J. Johnston, Jessi J. Johnston, Brandenburg, and Riley R. Bicoll, Mich.; brothers,

Brandon L. Bicoll and Joseph N. Bicoll, Mich.;

grandparents, Robert and Ruth Singleton,

Mauckport, Ind., and Harry and the late Mary

Bicoll, Mich.; aunts, Rena Singleton, Robin

Reynolds, Ricki Singleton, and the late Elaine

Piro; special friends, Taylor McCleeary and Shelia Sodosinski; and her beloved dog, Atticus.

She was a 2010 graduate of Meade County

High School.

Codi was a 2010 initiate of the Alpha Xi chapter of Kappa Delta soroity, in which she served

multiple positions. One of her proudest accomplishments was serving as the Vice President of

Membership and leading a record-breaking recruitment for the chapter. Her sorority sisters

found her to be a great leader, role model, and

friend to all.

She received her Bachelor of Science and

Dental Hygiene degree from the University of

Louisville.

She and her boyfriend, Peter Ostling, M.D.,

recently moved to Birmingham, Ala. where Peter is doing his internship at Brookwood Baptist

Health. Codi was employed by Greystone Smile

Designs.

Kappa Delta will be hosting a candlelight vigil

in Codi¡¯s memory on Thursday, June 30 at 8 p.m.

in Louisville, Ky. near the Kappa Delta suite,

2033 S 4th St., Louisville, Ky., 40208-1826. All

are welcome to come show their support, reminisce on good memories, and celebrate Codi¡¯s

beautiful life.

A favorite memory of Curt and Renetta was

the times they would travel for Codi¡¯s academic

and recall competitions. She excelled in all academic areas and she loved learning. Her best area

was writing. After the competitions, they would

take in the sights of the city, the parks, and the

pools.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, July 3, at 4 p.m. for her family, and 6 p.m. for

friends at 3215 Battletown Road, Brandenburg.

Please bring a chair and covered dish. Fireworks

at dusk.

IDA MAY HARDIN BURRELL

PETER GARY SONODA

Ida May Hardin Burrell, 98, formerly of the Little Bend Community, died June 20, 2016.

She was born June 12, 1918 in Grant County,

Okla. to the late Forrest Warren and Margaret Ellen Gile Hardin.

Ida May was the former Post Master of the Roberta Post office from 1945 to 1955. She was an

avid artist, quilter, and homemaker. Ida May was

not only the former president of the Little Bend

Homemakers Club but also the former 4-H leader

in the Little Bend Community. Her love of quilting was also seen in her membership in the Scrap

Happy Quilting Club. She was a life-long member of the Christian Church. She was a member

of the Macedonia Christian Church in Battletown,

Ky. for over 40 years and was a current member of

North Hardin Christian Church in Radcliff, Ky.

She was preceded in death by two husbands:

Frank Staples and W.N. Burrell; two sisters: Madeline Burger and Margaret Allen; and five brothers:

John, Glenn, Claude, Robert, and Herbert Hardin.

She is survived by her three children, son, John

Burrell, Lexington, Ky., daughter, Anita (Gary)

Musick, New Port Richey, Fla., and daughter, Patricia Dunn, Elizabethtown, Ky.; three grandchildren, Carrie (Ben) Hutchins, Bobby Dunn, and

Lindsey Musick; and two great-grandchildren,

Bryce Musick and Hazel Hutchins.

Funeral services were held on June 25 from the

Chapel at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral

Home. Burial followed in Cap Anderson Cemetery in Brandenburg.

James Brooks Coffman, 89, passed away June

21, 2016.

Coffman was a native of Flaherty, Ky. He was

a machinist at Naval Ordnance, as well as being

a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his loving wife, Walli Coffman (Eisenhofer); sons, Larry, Rudy and Tim

Coffman; daughters, Schatzie Smith and Anna

Britt; brother, Bill Coffman; sisters, Rose Weber, Ann McNeil, Rachel Newman and Dottie

Leonard; nine grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Cremation was chosen. Inurnment at a later

date at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central.

Peter Gary Sonoda,

65, of Shelbyville, Ky.,

returned Home to God

on Wednesday, the 15th

day of June, 2016, at

the Masonic Home in

Shelbyville.

Born on the 11th day

of June in 1951, in Hawaii, he was the son of

the late Richard and Estell Simeona Sonoda, and

the stepson of the late Pete Waikiki. In addition

to his parents and stepfather, he was reunited on

Wednesday with his father-in-law, Manferd ¡°Rip¡±

Ripperdan, and his nephew, Kyle Joseph Wilkins,

both of whom also preceded him in death.

He was a drywall specialist and worked on the

constructions of many high-rise buildings, industrial buildings, and houses in Hawaii. Leaving

Hawaii for Kentucky to be with his wife, Sharleen,

they first lived in her native Meade County, later

moving to Frankfort, where they resided for eight

years. Ultimately moving to Shelbyville, they made

their home here for the last twenty-eight years.

He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, and of the Annunciation Men¡¯s Club,

where he will be well-remembered for his cooking at Men¡¯s Club events. His gentle soul and his

lovely, God-given, musical gifts were blessings to

all who knew him. He sang and played his ukulele

for the students in his wife, Sharleen¡¯s class. Peter

entertained at social events, family gatherings, and

anywhere his beautiful singing voice could bring

happiness or comfort. Breeding and selling bichon

frises to families needing non-allergenic pets, he

helped make it possible for people with allergies

to know the love of a dog, and these puppies were

¡°children¡± to Peter and Sharleen. Unique yard sales

were also one of his favorite pastimes. Since April

of 2014, Peter and Sharleen dealt bravely with

many physical problems from his strokes. A kidney transplant patient for over 20 years, he endured

much pain that is now gone.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Sharleen Ripperdan Sonoda of Shelbyville, his survivors also

include his daughter, Tina Sonoda of Hawaii; his

grandson, Kawika Sonoda, also of Hawaii; his

mother-in-law, Thelma Ripperdan of Frankfort;

his sister-in-law, Angela Ripperdan Wilkins and

her husband, Gary; his brother-in-law, Kevin Ripperdan and his wife, Susan; his nephews, Sean

Wilkins and his wife, Angela, Adam Ripperdan,

and his wife, Sarah, and Chase Ripperdan and

his wife, Alyssa; several great-nieces and greatnephews; his brothers, Henry Sonoda, Kent Sonoda, Todd Sonoda, Eugene Sonoda, and Warren

Waikiki, all of Hawaii.

A Memorial Mass was said at 1 p.m., Saturday,

the 25th day of June, 2016, at the Church of the

Annunciation, with Reverend Michael Tobin celebrating. Arrangements are entrusted to the HallTaylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, and online

condolences may be expressed at .

In lieu of flowers, the family would really appreciate any donations to help with Peter¡¯s funeral

and medical bills. Donations can be made at any

Republic bank to the Sharleen Sonoda/Peter Sonoda Memorial Fund. Peter spent two years,

two months at five different hospitals and nursing

homes. He endured several surgeries and emergency medical procedures. Sympathy cards can be

CHESTER EARLY HIGBEE

Chester Early Higbee,

92, formerly of Meade

County, Ky., was born Feb.

4, 1924 and died June 20,

2016.

He was a retired employee of S&T Industries

and the Commonwealth

Convention Center and a

Navy veteran of WW II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine

(Lamkin) Higbee; and parents, Asa and Tella Mae

Higbee.

He is survived by his children, Shirley (Mike)

Ferris, Karen (Richard) Hernandez, Robert Earl

¡°Bobby¡± (Shirley) Higbee, and Dorothy (Steven

Morris) Higbee; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four

step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Margaret Berry and Thelma Curl;

brother, Raymond (Betty) Higbee; and extended

family at Morningside Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held June 24 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in

New Highland Baptist Church Cemetery, Brandenburg, Ky.

COLEMAN THOMAS REID

Coleman Thomas Reid, 69, Ekron, Ky., died

June 22, 2016 at his home.

He is survived by his daughter, Athena Reid

of Ekron, Ky.; two sons, Coleman T.S. Reid,

Minn., and Dustin Brown, Texas; and a sister,

Mary Cottle, Calif.

There will be a memorial at a later date.

JANICE L. DOWELL ROBERTS

Janice L. Dowell Roberts, age 78, passed away

on June 21, 2016, at her residence in Hardinsburg,

Ky.

Roberts was preceded in death by her husband

of over 50 years, Robert F. ¡°Bud¡± Roberts; her parents, Richard Lee and Nina Haynes Dowell; and

her sister, Barbara L. Dowell.

She is survived by her brother, J.R. Dowell,

Guston, Ky.; and her beloved niece and nephews,

Penny Critchelow, Richie Dowell and Sherman

Dowell and their children, all of Hardinsburg, Ky.

Burial for Roberts was in Ekron Baptist Church

Cemetery, next to her beloved husband. All services were private. Hager Funeral Home, in

Brandenburg, was entrusted with arrangements.

Kathy Joanna Weedman, 58, Guston, Ky. died

June 25, 2016 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in

Elizabethtown, Ky.

She was born May 31, 1958 in Elizabethtown,

Ky. to the late John Coleman Payton and Helen

Bernadine Logan Payton.

She is survived by her husband, George M.

Weedman, Guston; sister, Debra (Tommy) Mullins; brother, Michael E. Payton; and many nieces

and nephews.

Visitation will be held June 30 from 11 a.m.
