VIRTUAL HIRING EVENT

Houston Methodist hires essential workers with Brazen

Houston Methodist encompasses seven hospitals, including a leading academic medical center and a research institute, serving the greater Houston, Texas area. In addition to patient care, the healthcare system is a research hub and home to more than 1,300 clinical protocols. As is the case with most healthcare employers, the search for talent is constant and challenging. Throughout its focus on unparalleled quality, safety, and innovation, Houston Methodist has discovered how virtual recruiting helps connect healthcare employers with the right candidates for key hard to fill roles.

Houston Methodist made a commitment to operate with the most advanced technology and innovation possible. Their primary focus in this pledge was the patient experience, but the mission extended to the recruitment process which is the initial experience of candidates and new employees. In 2018, Houston Methodist found that Brazen's sophisticated recruitment tool gives candidates a powerful first impression and could also help Houston Methodist connect more quickly and more efficiently.

" Virtual recruitment is now part of our business delivery and has positioned us well in this landscape where we have to shift all of our events to virtual." - Carlos Fernandez, Talent Acquisition Manager at Houston Methodist Hospital

Houston Methodist piloted Brazen with their recruitment of nurses. They planned to test out Brazen's virtual career fair platform for three months before rolling it out to other recruitment efforts. However, Brazen was getting such fantastic results in the first two months that Houston Methodist started using it throughout their system a month earlier than planned.

Houston Methodist now relies on Brazen tools to make 10-20 hires per month, or up to 90 key hires per quarter. The turnout for their events has surpassed expectations, with some events hosting over 200 candidates. They used Brazen to promote openings and connect with candidates online, as well as to advertise in-person events. "We might travel to a remote location for an event, but we'll generate interest and excitement with Brazen before, follow-up after, and if they can't be on site, they can log in remotely," said Carlos Fernandez, Talent Acquisition Manager.

When the coronavirus pandemic started, Houston Methodist had to cancel in-person events and rely on virtual events for all their hiring efforts. "Virtual recruitment is now part of our business delivery and has positioned us well in this landscape where we have to shift all of our events to virtual," said Fernandez. Brazen has allowed them to quickly mobilize recruitment efforts, which is key to keeping up with the peaks and valleys in hospital hiring.

Brazen has been an integral part in Houston Methodist's hiring playbook for years, and virtual recruiting tools became an essential driver of recruiting amid the major changes the industry has been through in the past few months. Brazen made it possible for Houston Methodist to keep pushing forward and hiring employees at a time when most of the world was standing still. Undoubtedly, virtual recruiting will continue to play a central role in Houston Methodist's recruitment efforts for a long time to come.
