BUTTER-SIDE DOWN?
There is a long standing myth that a piece of buttered bread falling from the table will always land butter-side down. This is in accordance with Murphy’s Law – If something can go wrong, it will.
Now it is time for you to put your own myth-busting skills to use! Your job is to design an experiment to test this myth. The experiment should include some different variables and several trials. You can go anywhere in the school to test this myth, but all you can use is a slice of bread, butter, a meter stick, and your brain. (Also, make sure you clean up after yourself.) Your experiment should be carefully documented using the scientific method, that means including a Purpose, Hypothesis, Materials, Procedure, Data and Observations, and Conclusion. The report will be handed in at the start of next class.
Let the myth-busting begin!
