REVIEW: Mail Merge Labels

PREPARATION:

1. Open the WRD14B file in the Week 14 folder. This is a Word table that will be used as a source document for a merge. Do not make any changes to the contents of this file!

2. Save the file to your flash drive as yourinitials-Data.

3. Close the file.

MERGE PRACTICE:

1. In a New, Blank Document: Click the Start Mail Merge button on the Mailing ribbon

2. In the Mail Merge menu, select Step by Step Mail Merge Wizard:

a. Step 1of 6: Labels

b. Step 2 of 6:

• Change document layout

• Label options:

1. Vendor: Office Depot

2. Product #: Address 612-011 (see top of page)

c. Step 3 of 6: Use existing List:

• Browse…

• Select yourinitials-Data from your flash drive.

• Click OK in the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box

d. Step 4 of 6: Arrange your labels:

• Click Address Block; Click OK in the Insert Address Block dialog box

• Update All Labels

e. Step 5 of 6: Do the following in the Label Preview document:

• In the Table Tools – Layout ribbon, make sure View Gridlines is activated.

• Click Select, in the Select menu, click Select Table

• From the Home ribbon, Paragraph group, change spacing to 1.0; Remove space before paragraph.

f. Step 6 of 6: Edit individual labels (do NOT print!)

• Click OK in the Merge to New Document dialog box.

g. Review your finished labels. Save this file to your flash drive with an appropriate name.

h. Check your sample document to see how the labels should look..

If you plan to make up the Midterm Assessment:

The Midterm Makeup will assess the following skills:

1. Reading and following written instructions

2. Starting Word and opening a document (you will edit an existing file)

3. Correctly saving files to local folders

• You will NOT use your flash drive/USB.

• All files will be saved to the FINAL DOCS folder.

• You must save the file to the correct name and location in order to pass this final and earn a certificate of completion!

4. Printing final documents

5. Spell check, proofreading and editing.

6. Bold, underline, italics

7. Cut and paste

8. Left, right, center alignment

9. Bullets and numbering

10. Custom tab set

11. Custom margins

12. Automatic Page Numbers

13. Creating and envelope

To qualify for a Completion Certificate you must do the following:

1. Successfully complete two assessments

• The Midterm qualifies as one of these assessments.

• The 5/18/12 Final qualifies as one of these assessments,

• If you did not successfully complete the Midterm, you may take an additional assessment at the same time as the final.

• If you do not successfully complete two assessments by 5/18/12, you do not qualify for a Completion Certificate.

• Only in the case of emergency, makeup arrangements may be considered at the discretion of the instructor.

2. Correctly complete and submit this Form to Karen Merced Willner no later than 11:30 am on 5/11/2012.

FINAL PROJECT SIGN UP & APPROVAL

I. The final assessment will be administered on May 18, 2012. Required files and content will be included, but for the overall project students can design their own custom documents

A. The nature of your custom document must be pre-approved by the instructor.
