The Path to Helping Others Could Be Your Pathway to Success

Discover Healthcare Programs at School of Extended Learning

Graduates of Extended Learning's Healthcare programs are in high demand. Our Medical Assistant Training program has over 90 percent job placement rate! Career pathways start with the Medical Assistant or Personal Care Attendant certificate. Moving on, students can continue their medical training in credit programs at SBCC to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or a Registered Nurse.

Virgilina and Brenda did it. So can you.

A variety of tuition-free classes at School of Extended Learning helped Virgilina Derrick and Rengen Hovderven discover their educational and career pathways.

Discovering a Passion for Healthcare.

In 2018, Virgilina Derrick, from the Philippines, began her Extended Learning journey at Wake Campus in an English as a Second Language (ESL) class.

Learning English wasn't easy, but she was helped by friends in the diverse learning community of the ESL classes.

After receiving her ESL Level 4 and Grammar and Composition certificates, Virgilina decided to take the Vocational English in Healthcare course. That's where she discovered her passion for healthcare.

Virgilina then completed the Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program and is currently taking Extended Learning GED classes. She is close to attaining her high school equivalency and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Virgilina plans to use her skills professionally. And, she realized that the lessons learned in healthcare courses are useful in everyday life. Virgilina says, "We all take care of our family members or friends at some point.

Bouncing Back Better Than Ever.

After being laid-off from a job that she had held for 16 years, Brenda Lopez decided that it was time to go back to school. Though nervous about the amount of work, she enrolled in School of Extended Learning's tuition-free Medical Assistant Training program.

Extended Learning changed Brenda's life for the better. She is now employed as a Medical Assistant, and has even purchased a home for her family!

Join Virgilina and Brenda in exploring the pathways to success at School of Extended Learning.
