The Crowded Coast

How We Affect the Environment

Understanding how humans affect the environment has a great deal to do with Coastal Population Pressure. The following link allows the students to complete a fun questionnaire about their daily activities. Their answers to these questions will provide them with a calculated carbon footprint that can then be compared to the American average. The categories that can be selected for calculation include carbon, land, trees and water, which would touch on the Coastal Population Pressure the most. Any of theses categories can be learned from or you may choose to emphasize the calculations based on water for your lesson in relation to the coast.

The following link provides students with a challenge to reduce their carbon emissions and make through the day by being green. It can also emphasize the ways that people who do choose to live on the coast should focus on living because the pressure on the environment is that much greater in these areas. The lesson can still be focused towards Coastal Population Pressure by explaining to the students that if they choose to live in these areas, they must pay close attention to how they live in order to keep the environment and the people that live there as safe and healthy as possible.
