Process Paper

Why I Chose This TopicI chose this topic, because I was always interested in El Paso’s history, but there are some interesting things in world history such as how the world handled the Spanish Flu. Then I thought about combining both and maybe I would a project about El Paso’s struggle through the Spanish flu. My teacher then approved this idea and I instantly began to work on getting notes on El Paso in its struggle through the Spanish flu. I always enjoyed researching on history. How I Conducted My ResearchI did research on El Paso in the year the Spanish flu hit (1918) on the internet, through books and in documents. I found many things on the internet on Fort Bliss and emergency hospitals, but in books I found these things in detail. The documents on what happened in the borderland had to be the best thing to use for research. Documents had many details that made me think that the internet research was grazing the surface. How I Created and Developed My ProjectI created my website using all the research and photo’s I’ve gathered and from the people I’ve interviewed. I had a tab on the symptoms of the Spanish flu and I with it I had the story of a person who got the flu and lived. Then I had a tab about how El Paso was affected and how Fort Bliss really helped in spreading the disease around El Paso. After I added a tab on the death toll worldwide and a tab on how surrounding cities handled this disease. Then I went back and began adding the pictures and my bibliography.SystemsFor this project I must connect it with our themes of the year and this topic connects with Systems. In this topic we see how El Paso worked together and how other cities worked together to overcome the disease. In our word Systems we see systems means things put together and work together, like a clock without a gear the clock doesn’t work. El Paso had a hard time doing this with so many people getting sick often.FrontiersThis topic also connects with Frontiers. As the Spanish flu raged on throughout the world doctors tried to heal those who had the disease, but they began to notice they weren’t prepared for something like this to happen. As the disease began to subside doctors began to formulate a vaccine that would prevent this from happening again. Thus doctors created the vaccine that you take when flu season comes around. The vaccine is also known as the swine flu vaccine. ................
