Mathematics Entry 1 - Functional Skills Lesson plan 4

Aim

To work with days, months, seasons and the calendar

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session, the learner will be able to:

• recognise and order the days of the week

• recognise (and order) the months of the year

• associate the months of the year with the seasons

• work with the calendar in a practical situation involving counting and identifying weekdays and weekends

Aspiration

For learners to feel confident about working with the months of the year and the calendar in problem solving involving time

Differentiation:

MUST participate in exercises (be able to identify days, months and seasons)

SHOULD complete a matching card activity on the days of the week, the months of the year and their shortened form

COULD gain an understanding of how to use a calendar to extract information

Resources:

Matching card activity: set of cards for each pair of learners, cards should be cut up beforehand, template for days of week, glue sticks

Matching card activity: set of cards for each pair of learners, cards should be cut up beforehand, template for months of year, glue sticks
