Prep 2005 Learning Story

Here is an example of how technology helps me to daily manage the observation, recording and reporting of young children as they work. I created a template for “Learning Stories” which are samples of the children’s daily work that I can use for reporting and assessment. These learning stories are given to parents and are also placed in the children’s digital portfolios that the parents and future teachers at the school receive on cd at the end of the year. It is also documentary evidence and allows me to easily manage my assessment of the children and keep samples of their work.

Don’t Feed the Crocs

Tayla decided that our Prep Australia Zoo needed some signs as some of the children were pretending to feed the crocodiles. Tayla decided that this was a dangerous practice and explained this to the children feeding the crocs! The children didn’t listen so Tayla took her own action and decided to write some signs. She asked for the words to be written on the board so that she could copy some of the words she couldn’t spell. She explained that she knew how to some words and others she copied from around the room. Tayla went on to draw a picture to go with the writing and then completed several more signs.
