Microsoft Word: Exercise 8- Bullets and Numbering

In this exercise you will practice:

• Creating bulleted lists

• Creating numbered lists

• Adding new items to a list

• Using the Quick Access Toolbar

• Removing spaces after a paragraph

• Using different Underlining styles

1. Open a new Microsoft Word document by double-clicking the icon on the desktop.

2. Type a document that looks like the one in the box:

3. Click after: 10 minutes to put your cursor there.

4. On the Home tab in the Paragraph group, click the Line and Paragraph Spacing button, and then click Remove Space After Paragraph.

5. Click after: 15-18 minutes to put your cursor there.

6. Click the Line and Paragraph Spacing button, and then click Remove Space After Paragraph. The button is located in the Home tab in the Paragraph group.

7. Highlight the list of ingredients. Do not include the title Ingredients.

8. On the Home tab in the Paragraph group, click the Bullets button this will add bullet points to left of each ingredient.

9. Click after: ½ tsp. Cinnamon to put your cursor there.

10. Press the Enter key on the keyboard. This will create a new bullet point for the next ingredient.

11. Type: 1 Cup Mashed Ripe Bananas (about 2 bananas)

12. Press the Enter key on the keyboard to create a new bullet point.

13. Type: ½ Cup Chocolate Chips

14. Press the Enter key on the keyboard twice. This will end the list.

15. Type the text in the box:

16. Highlight the list of instructions. Do not include the title Instructions.

17. On the Home tab in the Paragraph group, click the Numbering button. This will add numbers to left of each instruction.

18. Click after the last instruction, (after: …the chocolate chips.) and then press the Enter key to add the number 9. to the list.

19. Type: Spoon the batter into the muffin pans, filling 18 of the muffin holes ¾ full.

20. Press the Enter key on the keyboard to add the number 10. to the list.

21. Type: Bake the cupcakes for 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

22. Press the Enter key on the keyboard twice. This will end the list.

23. Scroll to the top of the document, and highlight: Banana Cupcake Recipe

24. Change the font to Amienne.

25. Keep the text highlighted, and change the font size to 48.

26. Keep the text highlighted, and make it Bold.

27. Keep the text highlighted. In the Font group, use the Underline dropdown menu to underline the text with a Dot-Dot-Dash underline style.

28. Highlight: Preparation time: 10 minutes

Bake time: 15-18 minutes

Makes 18 cupcakes

29. Change the font to Kristen ITC.

30. Keep the text highlighted, and make it Bold.

31. The beginning of your document should look like this:

32. Highlight: Ingredients. Change the font to Amienne. Change the font size to 36 and make the text Bold.

33. Keep the text highlighted. Use the Underline dropdown menu to underline the text with a Dot-Dot-Dash underline style.

34. Highlight the bulleted list and change the font to Kristen ITC.

35. Highlight: Instructions. Change the font to Amienne. Change the font size to 36 and make the text Bold.

36. Use the Underline dropdown menu to underline the text with a Dot-Dot-Dash underline style.

37. Highlight the numbered list, and change the font to Kristen ITC.

38. On the Ribbon, click the Review tab and then in the Proofing group click Spelling & Grammar. The Spell Check box should appear.

39. Correct any spelling mistakes you made. Remember to look at the suggestions list first, and then choose to Change or Ignore each suggestion.

40. On the Quick Access Toolbar, the Print Preview and Print button. If the button is not there, add it by clicking the dropdown menu arrow at the end of the toolbar.

41. Look at the preview of your document on the right side of the window. Your document should look like this:

42. On the left side of the window click Save. A box will appear.

43. Name the document BananaCupcakeRecipe.

44. Save the document to your flash drive or to the My Documents folder. Use the Save in dropdown menu at the top of the box or the icons on the left side of the box to choose where you want to save the file.

45. Click Save in the bottom right corner of the box.

46. Click the X in the top right corner of the window to close Microsoft Word.
